Eurasian Economic Union to benefit Thailand

BANGKOK, July 14 -- The recent establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) by Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus will benefit Thailand’s trade and investment in future, according to Kalaya Sirikul, director of Thailand’s International Trade Promotion Office in Moscow.

No reports of casualties among Thais in Israel

Police to arrest more suspects in war weapons-related cases this week

BANGKOK, July 14 -- The Thai authorities are expected to arrest more persons suspected of committing a series of attacks on demonstrators against the former government of Yingluck Shinawatra earlier this year after detaining a suspected attacker about a week ago, said deputy national police chief Pol Gen Somyot Poompanmoung.

Meteorological Department warns of heavy rains in the next 1-2 days

300,000 yaba pills seized in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI: -- The joint team of army and police seized 300,000 Yaba pills worth Bt60 million at a checkpoint on Chiang Mai-Phrao road recently. A sack of drugs were thrown from a suspect's car during a hot pursuit.

No suspect was arrested.

Deputy police chief praises arrests of drug dealers in Nakhon Si Thammarat

NAKORN SRI THAMMARAT, 13 July 2014 (NNT) – In a weekend press briefing, the deputy national police chief Pongsapat Pongcharoen revealed that arresting 109 drug dealers and users in possession of 110-kilograms of Kratom leaves and 9,502 amphetamines, in 126 communities in Nakhon Si Thammarat is a result of the successful integration of relevant authorities working to eradicate drug dealers in communities.


Also, Pol Gen Pongsapat said that the authorities have received good cooperation from people, so that they are able to collate data of both minor drug dealers and drug users. Any drug user will be sent to the provincial rehabilitation center in order to help them return to society when they no longer need to use drugs.

As there are four or five drug gangs in the South who are bringing drugs from the North, police will conduct further investigations to apprehend drug kingpins.

Panadda to announce outcomes of government rice inspections this month

BANGKOK, 14 July 2014 (NNT) – The Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office ML Panadda Diskul is set to conclude outcomes of rice inspections and disseminate information gained to the public by the end of July.


ML Panadda who visited rice warehouses in Udon Thani yesterday said that there is no problem with the quantity of rice, but rice quality remains a problem as cleanliness and methods of storing, are below the required standards.

Meanwhile, former MP Warong Dechkijwikrom has claimed that about 400,000 sacks of rice in Pichit province are missing. He said that the inspection sub-committee will further investigate the case.

Strong 6.4 quake hits off Philippines, no damage

MANILA - A strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake was detected at sea in the southern Philippines on Monday, the US Geological Survey said, but there were no reports of damage and no tsunami warning issued.


The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology measured the quake at 6.1 magnitude.

The quake was detected 88 kilometres (55 miles) southeast from the coastal town of Don Marcelino but was barely noticed by residents, said the chief government seismologist Renato Solidum.

"It is not alarming," he told AFP.

The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of about 10 kilometres, he added.

Wildlife officials seize 75 restricted birds in Chatuchak Market

BANGKOK 3 October, 2011 - The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has stepped up its efforts against the illegal trade in wildlife and has seized 75 restricted birds. Aside from intercepting animal smuggling in border areas, a special body has been set up to confront the wildlife trade in the capital.

NCPO to host Ramadan dinner tomorrow

BANGKOK, July 14 -- The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) will host a Ramadan dinner in recognition of the Muslim New Year for AH1435 tomorrow, July 15, at Government House to express goodwill and friendship to the Muslim community across the nation.

Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, in his capacity as NCPO Chief has assigned Pol Gen Adul Sangsingkaew, Deputy Chief of the Peace and Order Council, to preside over a Ramadan dinner for the Muslim Year AH 1435 at Government House tomorrow.

Participating in the event are permanent secretaries of the ministries (as acting ministers), Thailand's national Muslim leader Chularajamontree Asis Pitakkumpol, ambassadors to Thailand from the Islamic countries, diplomatic corps of the Islamic countries to Thailand, committee members of the Central Islamic Council of Thailand, representatives of Islamic organizations in Thailand, Muslim dignitaries and VIPs, honorary guests, and public officials.

Mr Chartchai Balbah will recite the Holy Al Qur'an at the event.

The Ramadan dinner, Iftar, hosted by the Thai government is held each year during the month of Ramadan to express goodwill and friendship to Muslims all over the country.

The event will start at 5pm, with the breaking of the fast at 6.48pm, followed by the Ramadan dinner. (MCOT online news)

PHUKET: The Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, Adm Narong Pipatanasai, who is also deputy chief of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), said yesterday (July 13) that 89 titles deeds for land covering some 1,200 rai and encroaching into Sirinart Marine National Park can immediately be cancelled.
