Five panelists named in the team to probe media's bribe taking scandal


BANGKOK: -- The National Press Council of Thailand and the News Broadcasting Council on Tuesday named five individuals to join the fact-finding panel headed by Klanarong Chantik to probe into alleged bribe taking by 18 media organisations and senior journalists from Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc (CPF).

The five panelists are Sak Korsaengruang, Sitthichoke Sricharoen, Darunee Hirunrak, Chet Thonavanik and Jesada Anujaree. They will join Klanarong, former secretary-general of the National Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate if the allegation of taking bribes from CPF to present the company in a positive light to boost its image as appeared in a document leaked by the Thailand Information Centre for Civil Rights and Investigative Journalism (TCIJ) is true or false.

Meanwhile Mr Pichai Chuensuksawasdi, editor-in-chief of the Post Publishing Group, said today that an internal investigation had been conducted after Mr Nakarn Laohavilai, former editor of Post Today and M2F magazine was implicated in the scandal.

As the editor of Post Today and M2F magazine, he explained that Mr Nakarn was involved in the presentation of information to CPF representatives, advertisers in the presence of officials of the Post’s advertising department but was not directly involved in advertising.

He maintained that the initial probe did not find anything unusual regarding Mr Nakarn’s performance of duty.

But for the sake of transparency, he said the Post Group had decided to temporarily suspend reporting on all activities of CPF.

More money wasting....is it illegal??......As I understand, it's not......so if it's not illegal.......why continue?

This practice is global......big boys pay for good reports...a bit like Thai schools.....7 eleven stamps for improved marks!

CP is a globally huge company, and has enough money to buy most people. Of course the investigators find nothing of consequence, once a big bank account has appeared.

Similar to the Red Bull company.. lots of dosh to buy most people, well all, it appears as such - so far.

When they arrested a German for ripping off Thai Hi-so ladies for colluding to illegally import cell phones for profit (no charges leveled against Thais of course) I lost all faith that anyone from a big company here will ever be prosecuted, unless they are a fall guy for higher ups.

No one seemed to remark that that the German national had been illegally in the country for over a decade, and had been paid for not one, but TWO movies he appeared in and other television performances...but never had a work permit (and no one checked or needed to check, since they cannot and will not be prosecuted for breaking the law).

Recognizing there are two sets of laws -- one for elites and their spawn and another for other Thais (ala' Red Bull driving disasters and several other news items) is a matter of being aware, not a red shirt apology.

So stick all that in your yellow pipes and use it for an enema. Then smoke it.

It bought President Bill Clinton — or at least its time for a private meeting with the head of CP. A Thai lady and her mother nearly went to jail over that and similar influence buying but the completely independent and honest US court system decided it wasn't necessary to punish her even though she was found guilty.

That's the power of CP.

I don't think you know much about Thai business, which includes several HUGE Thai businesses. Also, I don't think you read or watch the news much if you think boiler rooms are big news.
