Doi Suthep-Pui campsite accessible in rainy season?

Featured Replies

Hi,

yes it sounds a bit stupid to go camping in the rainy season but we'd like to try out our new tent before taking it for a more serious trip. I heard that the Doi Pui campsite is closed from May to September, but does anyone know if that just means that there are no service facilities and camping can still be done independently? Or is the road access closed and if so how far away from the camp site would the barrier be?

And while we're at it, does anyone have a recommendation for a beautiful campsite anywhere else in the Chiang Mai vicinity. Ob Khan and Doi Suthep are known, but anything else?

Thanks!

The narrow road is paved up to the campsite.

Past the campsite would be tricky mudfest.

No idea if the campsite is officially open but there must be onsite caretakers or the place would get looted in no time.

Thanks, I know the road up to there but was wondering if they'd let one camp there if they're officially closed. If they have a care taker hanging around he might object I guess...or not care at all.

sure do have daily eyes up there, year round . . . there's a little known small scattering of shack dwellings (well before the main hmong village) tucked away up a side track spitting distance from the camp ground cafe & visitor centre.

would they object? not sure . . . but you'll be infested with leeches right now up there, so bear that in mind if you do decide to pitch a tent.
