Nida Poll shows 41 percent doubt Ms Yingluck will return within schedule

BANGKOK: -- More than half of the 1,247 respondents to the Nida Poll agree with the National Council for Peace and Order’s decision to allow former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra to leave the country but 41 of them doubt she will return within the schedule.

35 provinces told to brace for flash floods following heavy rains

BANGKOK, 20 July 2014 (NNT) – 35 provinces have been warned of flash floods and landslide from 17-21 July 2014. The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) instructed all relevant government units to provide assistance for the affected people immediately.

NCPO Chief Gen.Prayuth Chan-ocha said many areas across the country were currently affected by heavy rains which led to flash floods in some provinces such as the southern province of Ranong. Army officers from the 4th Army Area Command were sent to assist the local people affected by the flood conditions in Ranong from 12-13 July 2014, Gen.Prayuth said.

Despite the heavy rains and flooding, some provinces in the North have been hit by drought. Artificial rains will be made for them along with other aid.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phonphot Phenphat said 35 provinces were advised to stay vigilant against natural disasters from now until 21 July 2014 due to more heavy rains.

The department instructed disaster prevention and mitigation offices in disaster-prone areas to be cautious of natural disasters and be on standby.

Two Chinese tourists hit, injured by speedboat at Koh Lan beach

Two Chinese tourists were injured after they were hit by a speedboat off Tawaen Beach of Koh Lan Sunday morning, police said.

The skipper of the speedboat claimed a banana boat of the two tourists cut his bow and the tourists fell into the water. He could not stop his boat in time and hit them, he said.

Narathiwat rocked with four explosions

Four bombs exploded at three spots in Tambon Tanyongmus of Narathiwat's Rangae district at noon Sunday. No one was injured.

Police believe the explosions were launched in retaliation against the seizure of logs of an influential person.
