BANGKOK, 20 July 2014 (NNT) – 35 provinces have been warned of flash floods and landslide from 17-21 July 2014. The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) instructed all relevant government units to provide assistance for the affected people immediately.

NCPO Chief Gen.Prayuth Chan-ocha said many areas across the country were currently affected by heavy rains which led to flash floods in some provinces such as the southern province of Ranong. Army officers from the 4th Army Area Command were sent to assist the local people affected by the flood conditions in Ranong from 12-13 July 2014, Gen.Prayuth said.

Despite the heavy rains and flooding, some provinces in the North have been hit by drought. Artificial rains will be made for them along with other aid.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phonphot Phenphat said 35 provinces were advised to stay vigilant against natural disasters from now until 21 July 2014 due to more heavy rains.

The department instructed disaster prevention and mitigation offices in disaster-prone areas to be cautious of natural disasters and be on standby.
