Mystery over Phuket shooting death of grandmother

Police look for clues in the dark street where the grandmother was shot dead.

PHUKET: -- Mystery surrounds the motives for the shooting death of a woman from Trang province who was hit by a bullet as she rode home on the back of her grandson’s motorbike after doing a bit of shopping in Phuket Town last night (July 20).

When police and rescue workers arrived at the scene of the shooting, next to the Ta Toseh Shrine near the OrBorJor hospital, Saowalak Samthong, 41, was still alive. But despite their best efforts she died from a bullet wound in her chest before she could be taken to hospital.

Her grandson told police that he had driven her to a shop nearby and on the way back, on the dark road, shots rang out and Ms Saowalak pitched over, causing the motorbike to fall.

In addition to the fatal bullet that killed Ms Saowalak, police also found three bullet holes in the wall of the shrine. The investigation continues.

Motorcycle gangs again by the sound of it.

Thailand has a real problem with these delinquents. Only a few days ago in Pattaya a motorcycle gang shot a young girl in the hip and leg for apparently no fathomable reason.

There seems to be scores of these attacks a year.

They should be treated as serial killers. But I suppose the police won't take this too far unless the culprits literally walk into the police station.

Grandmother. 41 years old. Now, wait a minute.

Assuming grandma had a baby when she was 15 years old. Ok, happens.

Lets further assume her child had a baby when he/she was also 15 years old. Now, grandma is 30-31 years old.

That means when grandma reaches 41 years, her motorbiking grandson is 10 years old, with grandma on the back of the bike.

Absolutely plausible, yup this is Thailand.

....there must be more to the story........a grandmother at 41.....

??? If she was riding behind the driver of the motorbike how could she get shot in the chest ???

Sorry but I still think it is possible to get a bullet in the chest if shot from the side.Anyway it happened and my condolences to the family.A terrible trajedy
