Why haven't the Russian mafia been dealt with?

Recommended Posts

Seeing as how Thailand is experiencing an illegal worker and undesirable falang crackdown why are the Russian mafia allowed to operate with impunity?

I'm surprised the Thai police haven't dealer with them and replaced them with their own boys.

I'm not discounting the power of the Russian mafia, they dominate everywhere they go but I thought this would particularly irk the Thai gangster pride.

I for one would like to see a serious reply to this question, and be happy to miss the attempts at frivolity. I have wondered the same thing myself, as they seem to be very formidable, and dominate wherever they want to. I've been wondering if the new government would do something about these characters.

I don't recall any news reports of mass murders or contract killings linked to the Russian Mafia in Thailand.

The Yakuza and Chinese Triads together with the Malaysian credit card scammers seem to be much more active.

In April 1998, Russian restaurant owner Konstantine Povoltski was found shot dead in a car near one of his two restaurants in southern Pattaya. In August 2003, police apprehended three Russian bank robbers when their speedboat ran out of fuel after they held up the Bank of Ayudhya in South Pattaya, stole 2.4 million baht, and killed a Thai police officer in the process. Rinat Koudaiarov was sentenced to death for the shooting. In February 2007, two Russian women were found murdered on the beach of Jomtien 10 km from Pattaya, amidst speculation that it had been a Russian OC-ordered hit.
