"Free" cable TV

Featured Replies

Over the last few years here in Phuket I have rented three seperate properties from time to time for entertaining my special friends.

All three had "free" cable TV.  That is there was already a coaxial cable inside that when plugged into a TV provided 82 channels.

When I enquired about this arrangement from the respective landlords: one smiled and shrugged, one told me: free, the other: bonus (bonutt).

I am just about to sign a lease on a new place.  It does not already have any coaxial inside.

Is it possible to hire a Thai contractor who can tap into the "free" internet.

Sounds illegal. My cable TV (around 100 channels) costs 600 baht a month, cheaper if you pay 12 months up front.

Our cable is 250 a month all in. About 80 channels. Most of which are crap. But when complimented with utorrent all is good.

I think it cost 250 baht per room for them to hook it up initially, it was several years ago so might have gone up, 3 bedrooms and the living room. It is as the OP suggests coax. My house had the cable and sockets already in each room. The connection just needed to be made in the loft with the incoming cable TV cable.

This is Cherngthalay, and the price is fine for what it is. I don't expect much for 250baht.

Wow! That's expensive!  Where i live i rent a small room with bathroom ( a short & gentle stroll to the beach ) and comes with " WIFI & SAT TV "  at an monthly rent of just 2000 baht.......

Did I say 600, I meant 300 baht a month.

The only reason you might find 'free' cable service is when a previous tenant cancelled their service and the Cable Provider decides not to bother sending anyone out to unscrew the wire from service pole.

Free cable doesn't mean free cable internet. For that you just need a directional antenna.
