Is it legal in Thailand to use just an international drivers license or do i need a thailand drivers license to drive a motoscooter in Thailand?

Is the IDL for a motorbike? If so, you can use it in Thailand. That's what an International driver's licence is for, to use internationally.

Valid for one year I believe (although I have seen three months and six months quoted). I believe that some insurances become invalid (could become invalid) if you don't have a Thai driving license. Get a Thai license, this was one of the funniest time wasting mornings I had in Thailand.

Depends. IDP (no license but permit, valid in combination with your home license) is normally valid for 1 year, but: by law in Thailand if staying here long term, after 3 months a Thai DL is required. So IDP is fine for tourists, not for residents.

On top of that, IDP is only required if home license does not have a photo or is not in English, otherwise home license is enough (IDP can still be useful though).

As long as it is not a fake one. There are still many people touting fake ones and selling them online.. Most IDP are issued by transport offices or Automobile assosiations

It's not A license it is A permit. If you have A motorcycle indorsement on your license then you can use the International Drivers Permit. If you don't have the indorsement on your license that your IDP will not be any good for the motorbike.

Take into account it has to be a endorsement for a full motorbike license, not a provisional (up to 125 cc or something).

Yep your right IDP always comes up on sites as well as IDL or IDD.

No wonder the confusion.smile.png
