Phuket: More bones found where child's remains were found

PHUKET: -- The sad mystery of the death of a six-year-old girl in the Parlai area of Chalong found on December 19 is still yet to be solved, but her parents hope that small pieces of bone found recently may offer clues to how she died, and why, or at least bring her spirit to rest.

Natthapa “Nong Dear” Tubkaew disappeared on December 6 last year. Two weeks later, a child’s skull and some bones were found on empty land in the Parlai area, about one kilometre, in a straight line, from where she was last seen.

DNA tests confirmed that the remains were those of the little girl.

Another search by the family for more of Nong Dear’s bones was sparked last month by a dream.

Nong Dear’s mother, Jarun Tubkaew, told The Phuket News today, “We started looking for her bones again after my grandchild dreamed about Nong Dear.

“She said Nong Dear came to her with her hands outstretched, holding some bones, and saying ‘Here are my bones’,” Mrs Jaroon said.

The family searched the area where Nong Dear was found, and managed to find a number of bone fragments. Mrs Jaroon admitted that the bones might be from Nong Dear or they might be from animals or birds. But she still wanted to find out, so the bones were taken to Chalong Police who have sent them for DNA analysis.

Despite all the tests, police have so far not managed to establish how the little girl died or who, if anyone, killed her.

Pol Capt Thada Sodarak told The Phuket News, “The previous DNA result showed the bones [found in December] were those of Nong Dear.

“When the parents found more pieces and wanted them, too, to be checked, we sent the pieces to the forensic laboratory for matching with the bones already recovered. We are waiting on the result.

“Nong Dear is dead. But the parents wanted to make sure, because they said Nong Dear appeared in a relative’s dream saying that they hadn’t collected all her bones yet.”

Asked about progress on the case, Capt Thada said, “We don’t know who did it. We checked all the possible suspects, and we did everything we could, but we cannot simply accuse anyone without evidence. We took DNA samples from the suspects and we searched their homes but we found nothing.”
