Hello all,

My mother has been gathering information for a long time now about the surgery that she has chosen to get, the abdominaplasty or "tummy-tuck". She also wants to go ahead and do a liposuction.

We have been to a consultation with Dr. Pitchet, one surgeon who owns his own clinic and operates with 7 others, and Dr. Narathip Songthong in Vibhavadi hospital.

Because I am very concerned about this procedure I want to make sure that the doctors and the clinics are trustworthy and that the work has a good reputation.

Does anyone recommend a surgeon or clinic located in bangkok? Any body have experience with these procedures or any clinics already in bangkok?

Thank you all very much for your help!

She should absolutely NOT have this done in a clinic, only in a full-fledged hospital.

There have been a number of deaths in private plastic surgery clinics over the years, enough that the government has discussed banning them altogether.

No one should have anything involving general anesthesia done outside a fully equipped hospital, especially in Thailand. In your mother's care the procedure she envisions is especially extensive.

I don't know Dr. Narathip Songthong in Vibhavadi hospital but I've had two other surgeries at this hospital under general anesthetic and quite happy with the outcomes. Private rooms are fine, food OK, nursing care good. These days it's my hospital of choice.

Don't have the procedure done in Cilnic. This kind of major surgery should be operated in Hospital only for your own safety. Also make sure the hospital has JCI accredited. I recommended Bangkok 9 . JCI / full service good price for cosmetic surgery :-)

Ok, I need to put my 2 cents in here.

I came across this topic today trying to research room prices at Bangkok hospitals as my Thailand BUPA health insurance renewal is due next week, and it seems to be going up each year at an astronomical amount - even though in 7 years I have never made one claim on it.

I have noticed that BUPA Thailand has now moved to nice new shiny offices in Sathorn - thanks to my funding.

Anyway, back on this JCI crap.

8 years ago I dated a Thai nurse who worked in the Thai Goverment Health Department in Nonthaburi in a department whose responsibility it was to grade Thai hospitals and recommend them for this JCI certification.

Well, she quit, as she could not take the stress of her boss manipulating her and telling her to cover up some hospital short comings that would prevent them from getting accredited.

Bottom line is, JCI accreditation means jack shit in Thailand, and be prepared to pay an extra 30 - 50 % compared to a Thai for treatment.

Yes, still cheaper than the West, and yes you get seen a lot quicker (they think ching, ching as soon as you walk in the door), but the care you receive is always going to be a lottery.
