That's too bad. I was hoping there was a place close enough to at least go diving once a month or even more ofen if possible. Nothing within a 3 hour drive of Bangkok?

Nothing good. There are a couple of other spots.

Try Sattahip th"Hardeep" wreck best done with Ray Divers.

The wreck lies in a channel and if you don't get the tides right it can be a horrific dive for the inexperienced (<150 dives)

K Somyot , the owner of Ray Divers actually makes sure you go in for slack tide.

Also Lae Mae Phim

Two submerged pinnacles.

Great October November. Have Seen WhaleSharks there.

Pattaya!? yeah, terribly awful site.

Has anybody tried rayong? is there dive site over there?

Pattaya isnt that bad, just lots of suspended particle and all the coral the yellow submarine smash, for macro photography its good, the Khram wreck is great.

Yes Rayong has better vis, the wreck the Hardeep is very good although its decaying a bit now.

Where dive outlets in bangkok take their customers? I don't think Pattaya on weekends

Generally , yes the BKK dive shops take their customers to Pattaya :o

Pattaya is that bad. There are some good subjects for macro , but the backgrounds are so drab and grungy you can't get decent shots there.

Its not a stretch to say that Pattaya is the worst place I've ever dived. The only people who say its good are the dive operators and people who haven't dived elsewhere, IMHO. Sorry beach diving from Koh Samet was worse, but only just.

As above beach diving from Samet isn't good.

But the same site as accessable from LMP is also available from Samet , Hin Plueng.

COST. I think the guy asked original question wanna dive every weekends, and going two ways to

somehwhere like phuket 4000bhat air ticket + 2000bhat for 2 night stay+ other costs..., They really add up for guys living in bangkok

any better site than koh talu within 5 hour drive from bangkok

Just for my two pennies worth, Pattaya is not the best place to dive but it is certainly not bad.

There are a number of dive centres that normaly go out to the Islands or to Samae San down past Sattahip for diving.

I have been to better places to dive but still keep coming back, I have some dive pictures taken while diving during my stay in Pattaya >>>HERE<<<

Patters is fine place to dive and even clear on a good day. :o The wrecks aren't bad, but do get a bit crowded especially on the safety stops.

One advantage - dive year round in Patters, rest of spots can't say the same.

lol .... Brit you know I love you more than Beer Singha ... but the diving in Pattaya does indeed suck.

because ........ flying back less than 24 hours after diving would be stupid?

JD - well its not Phuket or Andamans for sure!!! No comparison there is better diving elsewhere, but for proximity to BKK - thats what you have.

Koh Chang not bad - better than Patters. :o

If you are the first one on the Khram for the day and theres not much current the vis inside can be great.

Diving isnt just about great vis tho unless your into Pics in a heavy way, I have dived caves in near blackout and they have been some of the most exciting dives I have done.

I hear they have an adventure dive weekend where brave souls can venture into the mystery canals of Bangkok! Better bring a chemical warfare suit along for there! :-)

Hi BKKDUDE

Yes, I think they are all from the Pattaya area.

Many are from the “Far Islands” (Koh Man Witchi, Koh Klung Badan, Koh Rin and the wreak of the HTMS Khran), some are from the “Near Islands” (Koh Larn, Koh Sak and Koh Khrok), the rest are from Samae San area including the Suddhadib Wreak (better known as the Hardeep) sunk in WWII.
