Replacement brake pads

Featured Replies

I just bought a used Peugeot in Bangkok which I wrote about in the "thai bikes don't fit me" topic and I need some replacement brake pads for my Mafac brakes. These pads are squealing really loudly when I stop. I tried cleaning the rims and also sanding the pads but the rubber in the pads is really falling apart.

Mafac was forced out of business by cheaper Japanese manufacturers in the 1980's. These pads say Mafac on them so they might be 25 or more years old and definitely need replacing.

Can replacement pads for this be sourced in Thailand? Can these be bought online from a seller in Thailand?

If not, can anyone suggest a good place to order replacements online from either Europe, the usa or Australia? TIA for suggestions post-170055-0-91977500-1408090218_thumb.post-170055-0-72259700-1408090241_thumb.

Looks like you may have mounted them upside down smile.png

BS aside, you could try Koolstop replacements for mafac. I think you'll need to import.

They look like the brake blocks that fit on some older cantilever brakes. If I had to guess I would say you will be able to buy these locally and maybe have more luck at normal thai bike shops selling cheap bikes from china rather than the more upmarket shops filled with Treks, Giants, Merida and Bianchi's.
