Where can I buy 'G' gauge model railway products?

I'm not a model train 'nut', but it would be nice to construct a 'G' (garden) gauge model railway in the garden of my new Bed & Breakfast business, which is also my home.

G gauge trains and track can be used outdoors in all weathers, and it would provide an attractions for both adult and younger guests.

Is there a model railway shop in Phuket that sells G gauge? I am OK to purchase from Bangkok if there is no local supplier.

The price might put you off.

I've seen the price to buy in the USA. It wasn't a 'shock'. I understand that a simple garden track plus train/coaches may cost several thousand dollars. But if that 'novelty' increases the number of guest bookings, (through publicity/photos etc about this garden railway), then I will make a profit in the long-term.

Perhaps there is a shop in BKK?

If you go for 'O' Gauge you stand a chance of finding it in Thailand.

Many years ago the UK magazine Railway Modeller did a series "N-gauge in the garden", perhaps you should look at that extreme :)

I read that G gauge was especially suited to outdoor use - the track and rolling stock were designed for rain/snow etc.

There is a model railway hobby shop in Bangkok in 2nd or 3rd floor of JJ Mall (the aircond mall at the edge of the Chatuchak market complex that is open every day). They seem to stock a variety of gauges and international brands (although I haven't noticed G gauge there). It's called Scent of Scale and you can find references to it if you do a Web search. People there may well know about the availability of G gauge in Thailand. Hope this helps.

I've been in touch with a supplier in the UK - there is a good choice of products and I can ship the whole package (rolling stock and track) out to Phuket.

Here's the crazy and fun idea I have.

At my new guesthouse there is a rectangular lawn whose width:length ratio is similar to that of Phuket Island. Just for fun, I plan to cut that lawn into the shape of the island, add rockeries in strategic positions to represent the major hills, a nice garden fountain for Bang Pae waterfall, blue gravel all around the 'island' to represent the sea, with some small yellow flowers in the appropriate places for the beaches and of course, a decent representation of the airport.

Then I can implement Phuket's sought-after railway.... perhaps starting from the airport, running via Thalang down to Heroine's Monument, then heading towards Patong, through a tunnel under Patong Hill, then running along via Karon, Kata, Rawai, Chalong and up to Phuket Town.

This is the type of project that eccentric, British people like myself do in their advancing years... :)

I'll stage a protest unless the railway have a stop at Ao Por as well! If that doesn't help.. I have to borrow a quadrocopter, fill few balloons with water and give your model a good flooding.
