ryanhull Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Hi All, I have moved into a new place and we do not have any phone lines installed, I am looking to buy a mifi dongle and wondering if they sell them that are unlimited? I do not want capped as I will be streaming the tv so 5gb would be gone quickly, Does anyone know of these and the prices they are? Cheers Ryan
ryanhull Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 p.s I have called truemove and spoke to them, I do not see the point in the dongles/mifi cards as I may aswell use my android wifi tethering option?
Digitalbanana Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 My guess is what your asking is not available but I am hoping I am wrong. In the past we had CAT or Hutch CDMA unlimited broadband but since 3G has arrived we are all capped now. Progress? Unless there's a wifi signal near you'll have to get a fixed line for uncapped unlimited.
ryanhull Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 I heard that it is unlimited however you drop to a lower speed after 5gb, not sure how true this is thou!
Digitalbanana Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Correct, there's unlimited but not uncapped and your 3G/4G speeds drop back to 384kbps or less depending on plan. If it dropped back to 2mbps I might be happier, but as is watching streaming TV becomes impossible after your cap throttles you back. 1
RichCor Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Can you describe 'your place' a little bit. We know "we do not have any phone lines installed", but CAN you get ADSL or Cable BroadBand installed, or is there a reason? Also, are their any major WiFi Hotspot Access Point nearby, like within 500-750m, from AIS, DTAC, TRUE, CAT, TOT or 3BB ? I once lived in a 6-month rental and didn't want to sign a 1-year, so I put a USB WiFi stick (with antenna) on a loooonngg USB extension cable so it could be placed outside a window where I could receive the ฿99/mo 3BB 10Mbps Unlimited Internet WiFi Hotspot signal. While this only works for ONE DEVICE per account, I did find a way to share it via my Laptop when necessary. Otherwise I just paid for several accounts and could stay somewhat connected while a traveled (WiFi Hotspots, unfortunately, are not almost everywhere like a mobile 3G/4G data connection).
