Hi, guys, for some time now, when I am trying to access websites (especially links from an email message - I use Hotmail) I have regularly been getting the message "xxx.com is not responding" and I have to press the recover website button usually more than once before it finally connects to the site and it is quite delayed. This was not happening before and I always had quick connections to any address on the internet. This happens more frequently when I am at our place in Bangkok where we have True. But it also happens sometimes in Pattaya where we have 3BB. A few months ago we were at the Centara Hotel in Krabi and the computer staff did some configurations to my computer so that I could pick up the hotel wi-fi. I was having trouble accessing it. Do you suppose that it is a configuration problem that I have or something else? If any of you have any advice for me (as they say, wise or otherwise), I would be so grateful to have it. Thanks a million.

Yes, a special configuration of your WiFi could be causing these issues.

For WiFi to work fluidly with several connections it must be reset to accept DHCP connections where the host router provides the Device IP, Subnet, Host Gateway IP, along with Primary and Secondary DNS addresses.

The issues usually manifest quickly when the device IP address is set statically, or the DNS is set to a specific ISP provider DNS.

Some people find that using an 'open/public' DNS can be beneficial, there are circumstances where non-local DNS can slow or prevent web traffic from being delivered in a timely manner, or at all.

Check your WiFi adapter settings (properties) and make sure "DHCP" is selected, and that DNS is set "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

Windows7: Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center

Change Adapter Settings

Wireless Network Connection (double-click)

Properites (button)

"Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" (highlight), then click the Properties (button)

General (tab)

(o) Obtain an IP address automatically

(o) Obtain DNS server address automatically

OK ... Close ... Close the open windows

If these settings are already current, you may want to edit your routers to use the open/public google DNS servers of 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4

Do you have a virus scanner active on your PC? Last week I cleaned a PC for a friend that had several adware plugins running. Those plugins also slow internet browsing.
