Exports of beans and pulses reach US$400 million

Exports of beans and pulses reached almost US$400 million from the beginning of the fiscal year to August 15, with the amount totalling about 520,000 tonnes, the Ministry of Commerce said.

A total of 520,748 tonnes of beans and pulses were exported from April 1 to August 15 and their export value was $399.54 million, according to preliminary data from the ministry.

I have a feeling this will be an unsung hero in improving Myanmar's economy - it is a commodity that is in high demand and Myanmar could become a recognised exporter. I often hear from folks who want to find out about beans & pulses in Myanmar.

It's a big one for sure. Normally has a detrimental affect on exchange rates when the harvest comes in as well.

Oh yeah, completely forgot about that. In the old days it was rather amusing and a little odd being told the Kyat rate was up/down/sideways compared to the previous week because of a bean harvest laugh.png
