Hi,

I am currently in the Netherlands, work wise it would be good to renew my passport now. However my old passport holds all my Thai visas (im on an extension of stay on my marriage visa). Now if I renew it now will i be able to get into Thailand and get my visas transferred back in Thailand or is this a problem. Will the Dutch office need to give a letter or something stating the Thai immigration to do this for me or can i request it myself.

They usually give you back your old passport. You staple the two passports (old and new) together and at the immigration in Thailand you show the page of the old passport with your visa. It should be no problem.

yes you will get back into Thailand provided you show them both passports. old & new

transferring the stamps.... some offices require a letter others not, I did my in Jan this year and didnt need the letter

You will need to use both passports on entry showing your re-entry permit in your old one and they will stamp you into the country in your new passport.

Then you will need to immigration to have your stamps transferred to your new passport. You will need to get a letter from the embassy if your immigration office requires it.;

Thanks for the advice one last question how long before your extention of stay expores can you apply for a new one ?

If longer as 4 weeks ill be ok and can change the passport in Thailand.

You can apply for your extension up to 45 days early at some offices and 30 days at others.

If you apply for your extension with less than a year left on your passport your extension will only be valid up to the date your passport expires.

Ubonjoe,

Yes i know that that is why i am asking now. If i change now ill have to do my visa in October instead of December.

As October is a busy time im thinking about getting a new passport early.

You do not have to apply for a new extension when you get a new passport if that is what you are thinking. They will transfer your current extension to your new passport. You can still do your extension inf December if that is when it is due.

Thank Ubon but I i knew this, its just that if I dont change my passport now I wont get a full extension in December. I read here that they will extend to end of passport, so then I will have to do my extensions before 21 October. However as you and others said you can do them one month before that time. This would be perfect as it would not be in a busy period. So I probably wont get a new passport now but just later when I need it.

Thanks for all the help everyone.
