BANGKOK, 10 September 2014 (NNT) – Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow has confirmed India understands the political situation in Thailand and still highly values its cooperation with the Kingdom.

During his visit to the Indian capital of New Delhi to attend a forum of Thai-Indian foreign affairs permanent secretaries, Mr Sihasak stated that he had an opportunity to meet with Mrs Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs of India. He said the minister extended her congratulations to Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn on his recent appointment as the new Foreign Affairs Minister of Thailand. She also affirmed her country’s awareness of the Thai political situation and the fact that related problems should be dealt with internally.

According to Mr Sihasak, India continues to give importance to Thailand for its roles as a friendly nation and an active member of ASEAN. Moreover, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has been invited to make an official visit to India whenever is convenient for both sides.

Meanwhile, Mr Sihasak also discussed a wide range of bilateral cooperation with his Indian counterpart Anil Wadhwa. Among the issues brought up were the expansion of military, technological and economic cooperation, establishment of a Thai-Indian free trade agreement and construction of a road linking the two countries via Myanmar.

Fire ravages famous school in Nan province

NAN, 10 September 2014 (NNT) - A fire broke out last night in two buildings inside a famous school in Nan province. The school’s name has not been disclosed to the public, however.

The fire has originated from the Srisawat Academic building and the four-storey Kanchanapisek library, which had a lot of tables and chairs as the perfect fuel to start the fire and cause it to spread quickly.

Firefighters have deployed four trucks to the scene and it took more than one hour for them to extinguish the blaze. As of now, the authorities are still unable to estimate the damage.

They have, however, stated that the fire may have resulted from an electrical short circuit.
