China to fast-track prosecution of terrorists, extremists
By Digital Content

BEIJING, Sept 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese prosecutors, especially those in Xinjiang, are asked to fast-track cases involving terrorists, religious extremists and manufacturers of firearms and explosives, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said Thursday.

Counterterrorism is to be a priority of prosecutors as part of tough measures against the "three evil forces" -- terrorism, separatism and extremism. Human trafficking cases will also be fast-tracked, said a statement issued after a meeting on Xinjiang issues.

The statement emphasized that these cases must be handled without discrimination and under the principle of tempering justice with mercy.

The SPP encouraged cooperation between prosecutors in Xinjiang and the rest of the country for a coordinated offensive against terrorists. They are also urged to work with police and communities to root up supporters of terrorism.

Besides fighting terrorism, prosecutors are instructed to protect legitimate rights and interests of people from all ethnic groups and help implement the country's religious policies.

Also on Thursday, the Supreme People's Court instructed courts in Xinjiang to speed up trials of terror cases and deliver exemplary penalties.

The number of terror cells busted in Xinjiang increased from about 140 in 2010 to more than 200 last year.

A series of terrorist attacks in Xinjiang shocked the country this year, with the latest in early August when 37 civilians were killed and another 13 injured in Shache County of Kashgar Prefecture. (Xinhua)

During World War Two, in occupied Holland, Belgium, France etc, the members of the Resistance movement were called extremists and terrorists by the governments in place.

Just saying....whistling.gif

I totally agree. The use of extremists is unearned title.

Urghirs/jihadis, etc., are most definitely not extremists. They would have to cite religious interpretation contrary to the majority. They do not. The represent a significant mainstream.

Thanks for your input Arjuna. In this 'age of communication' which would be better named 'age of propaganda', words are all too often used to stir up hatred, use and manipulate the preconceived ideas which were stuffed into the public's head by former propaganda, and this is a perfect example.

Chinese politicians, most of whom are infinitely more cunning than their Western counterparts because they have a MUCH older civilization (which, incidentally, invented the game of Go) are rapidly mastering the art of playing the West's sentiments on issues where it helps them.

Post-September 11, most of the West has become so paranoid where Islam is concerned, that by now it has all but decided that terrorism = islam and islam = terrorism, as if no other religious or political group (including so called Christians, or Hindus and recently Buddhists) would ever be capable of such evil.

So, when the Chinese call the (Muslim) Uyghurs of the Xinjian region 'terrorists' they know exactly what they are doing. And they have an agenda in doing so. That's what the game of Go is all about. The agenda is to make the West support their stance in Xinjiang (which it will, due to the perverted idea that islam = terrorism), so that later on, when they crackdown on opposition in Tibet, they can use the words 'fighting terrorism' again to justify the unjustifiable. By then the West will be caught up in its own rethoric.

The main mistake of the West, as always, is to think that they are more intelligent than the Chinese. It's the typical superiority complex of the young, who tend to think that the old are stupid, just because they are old. Gandhi once said : "Eventually the Indians will win against the British and the reason is that we have a major strategic advantage : the British think we are stupid and we know it... we think the British are stupid and they don't know it."
