senseo pods (mods please leave in general)

Hi, first off I don't drink coffee i just don't like it so please no discussion about taste. Even so i assume it tastes better as those instant coffee satchels they sell here.

I just came back from a family holiday in the Netherlands, my younger brother just got one of those fancy coffee machines for his wedding (reason why i went back to that cold country). So his practically new senseo machine was given to me. This because my parents visit my home every year and they do drink and like coffee.

Now my gf who also usually does not drink coffee started drinking it back in the Netherlands and does like the occasional cup. So the question is now the pads. I did bring some with me and I am sure my parents will bring more for themselves in November when they grace me again with their presence biggrin.png .

Now i still like to be able to buy these pads locally just in case that the gf or her friends start to like coffee. Does anyone have any idea if they are available. Ordering online or letting the parents send it is an option but locally is better. I live near / in Bangkok so if anyone has an idea please help me out.

Someone on TVF may be able to give you a local supplier, however I would go to the Senseo Coffee Machine web site and see if they have a dealer in Thailand. Or ask the company on line.

Did find out prices are 4 times as high as what i saw in the supermarket in the Netherlands yesterday so it might be a thing to let the parents send it to over here even with shipment (if you make a large shipment) it will be still cheaper.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks.. they look similar but are boncafe and senseo the same thing ? Coffee noob here never ever drank coffee so never took any interest in it.

From Boncafe you have to buy the "Soft Pods" the hard Pods don't fit the Senseo.

They sell them also by the Box approx 2000 THB for 200 so 10 THB each.

The Espresso is a bit strong (maybe good for in the morning, but the Crema is a nice one.

That would make the price of shipping them here about the same (just a bit cheaper) if you buy in bulk. So i might just buy it here.. Just wait and see how it goes if the gf likes coffee. No way I am going to drink it never have never will. Just dont like it.

Thanks a lot.. all info is welcome for a beginner like me.

^ Add info;

When you buy them from Boncafe, all (soft) pods are individually packaged so you don't have to worry they go "off" and the "use by date" is approx 1 year.

The Senseo is a Dutch development of the coffee company Douwe Egberts to increase their coffee sales. D. E. belongs now to Sara Lee in America. Sara Lee also has a corporate office in Bangkok. Sara Lee sells Dutch coffee in Thailand (D. E., Moccona).

Since you're not a coffee drinker yourself I don't think it's a good idea to have the pads shipped from Holland.

Typically de "voordeelpak" has 48 pads but the problem is that after the first few pads they tend to lose the good taste and aroma quite rapidly.

As another poster said the Boncafe pads are packed individually thus keeping them fresh much longer. Further problem might be import duties.

That is why you store them in airtight containers.. think that would help. Or at least that was suggested to me.

^ Those airtight containers work, but not for a couple of months of storing pads. I also got shipments in with these pads but (after a couple of months) when opening the last couple of bags, it was still coffee but not as good and tasty as the fresh ones.

That is (one of) the reasons why I switched to the BonCafe ones, I just opened one this morning (from a box bought before Song Kran) and it was still fresh and good.

But YMMV.

Are you talking that they even age in the bags they come in or after opening those bags ?

Those prepacked Senseo Pad bags are not 100% airtight so after a couple of months they will for sure lose their aroma, but if you can store the bags (whole) in Airtight containers that would be much better, but then again you will need a lot of storage space as these bags ain't small biggrin.png

And be careful not get a cut in those bags, that will also hurt their "freshness"

I think i ve seen them in Verasu. There is one in the Circle Ratchaprueck. Not sure if it was Senseo, they all have their own pads these days.

I brought a oldfashioned Baletti, the one that has to go on the gasburner. Makes the best coffee of all.Ground coffee from DE is in Foodland, the real thing.

Far too much work because I dont drink coffee myself and its just for the occasional guest. Plus the gf sometimes drinks it. But to each his or her own.

Ageing in the bags is less important if unopened.

Even storage in an airtight container, every time you open the container to take out a pad you lose a good chunk of the aroma.

But as always it's up to you to accept the advice (you asked for) or not.

Im taking in all advice and then measure if its worth the money and trouble. Its an occasional thing, i might go for the boncafe pads but i wait and see how much coffee the gf is going to drink. Its not like i get many guests that drink coffee.

It might be easier (and cheaper) to switch to a coffee press.

I think this thread should be moved to the Senseo forum. smile.png

Please read Robs answers, it was a gift so he is trying to make the best of it and most importantly he is not a coffee drinker, so he couldnt care less if it works or not, he is just trying to find out if he can make it work for his gf or not.

So your " use a coffee press" is not really helpful.

I got a senseo and that is what I am going to use. That coffee press stuff is all far to complicated for someone who does not drink coffee like me and for people who occasionally visit me. I think the boncafe pads would be the best solution in the end. Bit more expensive but as everyone says they stay fresh. I doubt a cup per day will be used as gf is a tourguide and off a lot and on days she is here she does not always want coffee. That leaves my parents who also are not that much here. So the senseo with boncafe is what it will be.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

I also did not know there was a separate forum for coffee sorry thought id seen it all already.
