This is all a misunderstanding.... This is obviously a fisherman who was swimming when his legs cramped and he drowned. No foul play is expected....Many Thais are known to bind their own arms and legs and go for a swim....it's a culture thing, you wouldn't understand.

There seems to be daily murders taking place in Phuket and vicinity. This country is spiraling out of control. They need singapore and Malaysian style gun control

Wrong. Needs the opposite. He should have had a gun to shoot back at those who ended up killing him...

Yep check out the ol USA for how widespread gun ownership keeps a lid on the indiscriminate murder rate !!whistling.gif

This quote right here suggest you don't think the gun situation in the USA keeps a lid on the indiscriminate murder rate. Yet, BestBitterPhuket suggests gun control style of Malaysia and Singapore. Yet when you compare the Murder rates of the USA and Malaysia it is clear that the Murder Rate in the USA is better then in Malaysia.

So why move to the gun law structure of the worse country?

Would you like to compare countries that compare a little bit easier to each other to find out what benefits there actually are to high gun ownership rates? Would you like to see the number of Assault Rates in the USA compared to the UK for example? Or how about home invasions in the USA compared to Australia?

Its a little hard to compare countries like Malaysia to the USA but much easier to compare the USA to UK or Australia for example to see the effects of policy on crime...

That wasn't you though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

US Murder rate at 4.7 not 10.3. Not sure what article you are referring to find 10.3 as the rate.

Had the victim in the story been carrying a gun would he have a greater or lessor chance of being murdered?

Murder rate is actually tied to many factors beyond simply the presence of guns....But if that guy had a gun would he have had a greater or lessor chance of being murdered?

Murder Rates:
Anguilla (UK) = 7.5
British Virgin Islands (UK) = 8.4
Cayman Islands (UK) = 14.7
Montserrat (UK) = 20.4
Turks and Caicos Islands (UK) = 6.6
Bermuda (UK) = 7.7

United Kingdom = 1.0

---------------------------------------------------

Yet you'd still be failing to consider Home Invasions, Assaults, etc..
