What would you choose for your fantasy last meal on death row?

it would be hell if I ordered one dish and the cook botched it...

I have very good gustative memory, so I'm often disappointed, because the longer I live, the more the probability that I eat a better tasting version of the dish diminishes...

And it's not just about dishes, it's about details. The same dish can taste good or bad depending on how it's been prepared.

Then the way to go for gastronomic delight is probalby JT's method of a little of everything, yet I couldn't remember all the good dishes I tried, most were chef's creations - and I think the real pleasure in eating is trying improbable new things that turn out unexpectedly delicious. But it's the first time taste that leaves the impression.

Another thing is that there are things that I can just keep eating without stopping until I'm completely stuffed. Among these are French Rosette, Black Forest Smoked Ham, smoked salmon from Scotland or Norway, etc.

Hmmm... difficult question actually.

Maybe I'd just order some strong sleeping medicine, for how long would I keep the memory of that good meal anyway.

...

That is so true and in real life it would be some prison cook cooking.

No NEXT TIME in that case.

So I can understand why people would just say bring me a bucket of KFC chicken!

At least you know what you'll get.

OK, funny ...

but ...

It's got to be in the jail.

So it's not really about the setting, it will be in jail, but the specific FOODS?

Kay?

I would start my first course with a fine cheddar cheese made from scratch and aged for 12 years.

If it makes you more comfortable amend the question to read "....death row in Thailand...."

OK, this is just too hard.

Since I started this, I guess I have to bite the bullet and come up with a list.

I could easily list hundreds of wishes ... but as said, got it down to 10 "small" tapas style plates plus a dessert plate.

I am surprised that this list is mostly American or Mexican food, memory food from childhood and different phases of my life.

No Thai food. One Chinese dish. Interesting because in real life Chinese food is my favorite. Also mostly not spicy food. In real life, mostly spicy food. I can see a big gap here, an INDIAN dish, but I just couldn't think of ONE specific Indian dish to include ... oh well.

All the ingredients and chefs would need to be world class of course.

Wine or beer paired for each course by a Master Sommelier

Sorbet for palate cleansing between plates

In no particular order:

Best quality Caviar served traditionally with best quality vodka

Mini Mexican Chicken thigh with Spicy thick Dark Chocolate mole sauce, Mexican rice, refried beans, spicy fresh salsa

Fresh Maryland Crab Meat sauteed in a pan with lots of butter

New England fat bellied clams fried, served w/ tartar sauce

Mini Mission district carnitas burrito with everything, but no cheese or sour cream, lots of spicy salsa and guacamole

Mini Italian American style beef, spinach, and ricotta cheese lasagna, LOTS of garlic (no bechamel)

Mini Chinese clay pot dish with large fresh oysters and pork belly (rice)

Nova Lox served on 1/2 New York poppyseed bagel, cream cheese, sliced onion, sliced tomato

Mini Black seafood and sausage paella (made with squid ink)

HAMACHI sashimi plate

Dessert plate ... French Grand Marnier Soufflé served with Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream

Would they bring the food in by baht bus?

No, but thanks for reminding me.

Fresh handmade MINI corn tortillas (preferably by a very short and fat Mexican Indian woman) are really a MUST with the chicken mole dish!

JT are you sure you haven't forgotten anything else?

I'm sure I have.

The list composed under time pressure.

I'm sure people on death row usually have years to think about what they want.

But even then, they probably can't get it unless they REALLY only wanted a bucket of KFC fried chicken.

Oh, the humanity!

Crivvens, man, you'd burst a gut on that lot - you'd be in no fit state for the morrow's morning. You don't want to suffer a loss of containment accident on the last drop.

Stale bread and water, same as every other night, and porridge in the morning. There's no point in trying something new - you'd either hate it, or feel you'd been missing out all these years.
