50 baht for all public transport on Car Free Day - where to go?

Featured Replies

So for Bangkok Car Free Day on Sunday 21 September 2014 you can ride the BTS Skytrain, MRT Subway, ARL City Line, and buses and boats all for the price of a 50 baht badge. I suppose this will be great for Bangkok newbies as they can go to JJ market, Chinatown, Siam, not to mention the massage parlours and nightlife. But for veterans who have been there, done that, I thought this might be an opportunity to get to see some lesser known parts of the city.

The trouble is, most parts of Bangkok are much of a muchness. There's always a Central shopping mall, Big C, Tesco, crappy market, the usual food stalls, karaoke bars, Johnnie Walker bars. Anyone got any suggestions for something worth seeing or doing, especially near the train lines or boat services?

Why dont they have a car free day on a working day? I know why. Public transport, Buses, MRT BTS would never cope . It's so inadequate.

If they have this badge everyday, you will solve the traffic problems in no time.

But you'd have to queue for an hour just to get into a BTS station.

It wouldnt work the bts and mrt with its limited area covered and not able to run trains at fast enough intervals would grind to halt if thousands more used it at peak times
