Several people suggested the Welcome Plaza and AA Pattaya Hotel, but from what I can tell on a (lousy) map, it might be too long a walk from the walking street for my old, arthritic buddy.

Don;t worry about the walk.

Its only 10B for a taxi (Baht Bus , pickup truck with seats in the back)

I know, but my friend doesn't like taking them and is being picky. I usually stay at the Apex.

Anyone ever noticed that Thai women don't like to walk very far, and that there are no taxis on walking street?

Welcome Plaza is in a decent location for his purposes- across Second Road from Soi Pattayaland 2. Lots of action there, and Walking Street is about a 2 minute walk along Beach Road from Soi Pattayaland 2.

Thanks much! The only map that I could find on the internet made Welcome Plaza look like it was over near soi 13 which is little inconvienient.

Pattayaland 2 is OK.
