Hi all

I am heading to Japan for a few days and wanted to exchange some US dollars for yen before I go. Not a huge amount. Just enough to have on arrival since Air Asia wants to arrive at 23:50. sad.png.pagespeed.ce.5zxzyGiJz0.png

I tried SK at Loi Kroh road but they wanted to do dollars to baht to yen. I'd prefer to avoid the double conversion and its double fee.

Anyone know of a money exchange that can do direct dollar- yen conversion? A good rate would be nice as well.

Thanks

The way I avoid the double conversion fees is to use the ATM's just outside Customs clearance when I go through Narita.

I'll probably end up doing that (at Kansai though). I just like to land with a small amount, just in case. :)

Good for you JPY-USD is at multi-year low!

Remember you can only use "foreign" cards at Seven Bank, Japan Postal Bank (Yuu-chou), and CitiBank.

There is a CitiBank ATM close to one of the the KIX customs exits. There is a 7-11 (24H) in Terminal 2, out by the Limousine Bus stop.

Seven Bank ATMs pretty common, at most 7-11stores. They have them even airside on departure level at KIX and NRT, but the minimum withdrawal is ¥10,000.

The Yuu-chou ATMs are everywhere at shopping centers (and post office of course) but after business hours they are often behind a pull-down gate and cannot be accessed.

@arunsakda

Thanks for the very helpful information. Do you happen to know what the maximum withdrawal limit is for the ATMs?

I think the daily maximum your home country bank imposes will be more limiting.

Charles Schwab gives me a maximum of $1000/day in 2 pulls of $500.

Thanks. I use Charles Schwab as well. Love their service.
