Warning.....the local Red Cross will not take blood from seniors.

I and friends were rejected twice a year ago in Bangkok and my friend is 51.

Call and confirm before you go.

All Samui hospitals have a list of expats available to give blood courtesy of the local Round Table. As said they are fussy as to who they will take blood from. Lets hope the person needing it gets better soon

They are fussy alright, they turned us down without even testing it first!

A well meaning comment, but not very helpful for the poor bloke needing a transfusion.

Nathon Hospital take up to 70 years old. (I am in my 60's and I gave this morning.)

Yep - I am on the list, that is why they called me.

Nathon also has a list of people who donate regularly. Quote a few uf us expats give on a regular basis. It did take a while for me to get on the list though.

There were also quite a few Thais donating this morning. I believe that the hospital was also after A neg for a different patient.

Glad to hear that they are fussy - I hope that the recipient appreciates the quality of my donation. whistling.gif

Seriously - I hope that he gets well soon. (He fell over on a slippery floor in his bathroom.)

Urgent request for a young lady needing blood.

Donations have to be at the usual place in Nathon Hospital, but please tell them that it is for Emma at Thai International Hospital.

I can confirm that they will take blood from us young'uns up to 70 years of age.

Any info on blood type?

O Negative blood is the most precious blood on earth. Many may not be aware of that. It would be better for a hospital to be stocked with only O- for trauma then a massive hodgepodge of every other grouping; why? O A B A/B etc, are blood groups. Each blood type has or not a "factor" like an additional ID on its surface. Someone who is O Neg is a universal donor because his blood could be accepted by all, not likely rejected by any (no Rh Factor ID on the surface to be rejected).

If someone is O neg, they are not particularly blessed; it means nothing to them personally. However, it could mean precious life to so many, many others. If someone knows they are O Neg, I implore them to do some homework and note how remarkable a gift they have, but how useless it is unless they share it. Really.

(PS, it is not scientific, but IMO, blood that is donated actually stimulates the immune system. Rebuilding your blood from marrow is a healthy process that continues throughout life. Donate blood; your blood is rebuilt pretty darn quickly. Consider it a way to feel young again wink.png )

Just for info, repost Wiki-image about blod types, and who can help who.
O-neg. is a problem, as can only recieve from O-neg. donor, whilst as doner help all the others...
