Alternatives to Anesthesia during operation

Featured Replies

My girlfriend is due to have surgery soon to remove a section of intestine with cancer. The last time she had surgery she went into a coma for nearly a month. The doctors believe it was due to the anesthesia. Is there any other alternatives that I am unaware of? Perhaps things being tried in other countries? It is a very scary thing to have to be put under for a surgery that is mandatory and not know what the outcome could be. Willing to look at anything at this point. She is having the survey at a hospital in Roi Et.

Thank you ahead of time.

There is no alternative to general anesthesia for this, but there are many different anesthetics in use, and knowing that she had a past adverse reaction to one drug, an anesthesiologist can make sure to use a different one.

She urgently needs to get the records from the prior hospitalization and to inform both the surgeon and the anesthesiologist of the past problem and show them the records. Suggest insisting on meeting with the anesthesiologist ahead of time to discuss her history of adverse reaction to anesthesia, with you there, as it is hard for Thais to be assertive with doctors.
