I hate being called a racist by some folk on a regular basis just because I disagree with the killing of the innocent by a particular group, but anything else like, numnut, not the sharpest tool in the shed, old man etc, I am sort of OK with............

That's where I have a problem, the gentle ribbing. In some pubs what is considered gentle ribbing I would pull out a pistol and shoot the guy in the head. Being called a C*** I don't think is funny. Or other words that are highly demeaning in my culture. Since we have people from many cultures here I'm of the opinion that insulting, name calling, (gentle ribbing as you call it) should be banned because we all can't be expected to behave like a drunk (****) and think it's funny.

See what I'm saying? The insulting culture that you think is humorous I don't. Don Rickles is an American comic that insults people. I think he appeals to the lowest rung of society and would never listen to him or attend a celebrity roast as I think they are low class and tasteless.

There are pubs to frequent if one wants to bash other nationalities or people. I don't think it has a place in an open forum where one encounters people from many different cultures and nationalities.

Insults or gentle ribbing lead to gentile or not so gentile flame wars and in my way of thinking are a disruptive to the forum.

Excellent example. The above poster has chosen to turn hyperbole into another anti American post. And in doing so will try and start a flame war. The pro and anti American post will go back and forth for a while and then the thread be closed and the posts deleted for bickering.

But take note of who started it. Hint, it wasn't me. The same people start the flame wars over and over again.

To be honest Nothing wrong with mickey taking, and for sure there is some that dish it out a lot. Some people are really just way to sensitive, note some posts above.

Costas' posts as an example are normally good natured and fun, I like his posts, he has a sense of humour, and also gets ribbed relentlessly.

There are several posters though who think it's okay to post personal details of a poster, threaten to report them to immigration, spoof an IP address and set up an account in the name of the person, that to me is taking it way too far, it's only a bloody web forum.

I go by the title of the post first,

then maybe glance to see who the op is.

I do enjoy some ops more than others,

we do not all have the same interests and even ops I enjoy sometimes post about topics that just do not interest me.

not because we may be like minded, but some seem more entertaining, maybe more humorous or better informed on certain subjects.

I have just recently started avoiding a few members who seem to be stuck in a rut, always trying to drag threads off topic to address unrelated issues they can't get over.

For the first time since I joined TV, I have used the ignore button.

Oh yes: Costas2008. He's one of the more amusing guys on this forum. Certain people are worth following because they post funny stories about life's daily frustrations and misadventures. In my opinion, Costas doesn't deserve the hatred that he receives from a lot of people.
