I have a friend, about 70, who wants to visit Nong Khai with his wife. They are not experienced travellers and would like a guide on some days, to take them sightseeing, shopping, on a river cruise etc.

Any suggestions as to a suitable person in Nong Khai?

Assuming they are going to be booked into an hotel, just book through the hotel.

I stay at the Pantawee hotel and they have a goodly number of tours available. Plus you can create your own itinerary by booking a car with driver. Just tell him where you want to go.

Check out the Pantawee web site for info on their tours.

No, it goes to a site that says, in part:

On Saturday the 11th October at 12 PM (noon) to Sunday the 12th October at 12 PM (noon) all systems will be offline.

We (GF & I) really liked the WHITE INN in Nong Khai (http://whiteinnnongkhai.com/ 042 422 666)) Nice, large rooms for less than B1000; close to the center of town and the river. They can recommend several Tuk-Tuk drivers who speak excellent English and can take you around. Be sure to visit Sala Kaew Ku, an amazing sculpture garden with towering, mythological Buddihst figures.

A surprise to us was that Nong Khai has a Large Vietnamese population and several of the riverfront restaurants serve a sort of fusion Thai/Vietnamese menu...great food with a beautiful view of the river.

The White Inn is also listed on Agoda.
