Hong Kong Wedding

Featured Replies

I plan to marry my Thai girlfriend within the next few months and thought as Hong Kong is not too far away it would be a good idea to get married there as there is still the connections with the UK and it would easier to accept the marriage in the UK for transfer of my company pension to my wife when I die. Has anyone got experience of getting married in Hong Kong.

My girlfriend did not look too happy when I mentioned getting married in Hong Kong and she asked why we do not get married in Thailand and she seems to be making an issue about it. She may or may not have reasons for insisting on a Thai marriage and the more she says about getting married in Thailand then the more I will insist on getting married in Hong Kong. Maybe I am a romantic and I think it would be good to go there get married and have our honeymoon there. I understand if you get married in Thailand this would involve a trip to Bangkok to register the marriage at the British Embassy and this is something I do not want to do.

I have researched the procedure of getting married in Hong Kong and it appears it would be easier for me to travel to Hong Kong about 1 month before we get married to register the intention to get married.

Not sure what happens if she refuses to go to Hong Kong so I guess if she refuses we can carry on living together and she can forget about getting married. I want to marry her but I would not be too upset if it did not happen as one of the main reasons to get married is for my pension and if she wants to miss out on that then that would be her problem.

Does she have family? Most Thais want family at their weddings/wedding party. Maybe you could offer to have wedding party (reception) when you get back...then she can show off (I mean invite family and neighbors).

Yes we can do that.
