Man arrested following bomb scare at HMAS Cerberus naval training base

MELBOURNE: -- A naval training base in Victoria is in lockdown following a bomb scare.

Police say a man has been arrested after a "number of items" were located at a residential unit at the HMAS Cerberus navy base on the Mornington Peninsula.

A police spokeswoman said that, as a precaution, a 400-metre exclusion zone has been set up around the unit.

The bomb response unit and members from the arson and explosives squad are heading to the scene, she said.

The arrested man resides on the base. The items were discovered following a search earlier on Thursday.
