Hi,

I have been searching on this site and a few others but keep finding conflicting details about the paperwork needed to transfer the ownership of a motorbike.

I am purchasing the bike from a fellow foreigner, who is named in the green book.

I understand that as the purchaser I need the following -

1: Residency - I have the yellow house book - Some sites say this is enough for residency, others seem to say I need the photographic certificate from immigration? Anyone clarify this one?

2: Passport - copies of Visa / Extension and photo page.

As far as the seller goes am I correct in thinking that he needs to give me the following -

1: Passport copy with visa etc.

2: Green book.

Some sites say that the seller needs to supply the residence certificate, some say they don't, anyone clarify this for Chiang Mai?

There is also a transfer document (official Thai form)

If I get the correct paperwork from the seller and the form of transfer is complete, does the seller need to come with me to the D.O.T Office or not? Again conflicting reports.

Anyone who can give the correct information, will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If he doesn't go with you then you need the power of attorney form. Some offices require proof of sellers address also though you might be ok if registering in the same province.

this thread covers it pretty well

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/649448-which-province-sellers-or-buyers-to-transfer-green-book/?p=6550928

don't know about CNX but yellow book should be okay (it is accepted in Pattaya) and in Pattaya both foreign seller and buyer must have Res Cert/Yellow book.

you can pick up copies of the forms needed

http://www.ayutthaya.go.th/form/index4.html

the first one (แบบคำขอโอนและรับโอน (แบบ ขส.บ. 10 ท. -11 -ท.)) is the transfer form

the 4th one (หนังสือมอบอำนาจ) is the Power of Attorney (if not going to office in person)

Thanks for the info gents! The seller is going with me to the DOT office so that may help.

The seller is a Chinese retiree, no yellow book, no residence cert. He is named in the green book and reckons he has done this before.....so we shall see! Thanks for your help.

If the transfer cannot be carried out due to residence certs. or whatever, do you know what is the safest way to proceed? i.e. would you still pay for the bike and take the green book to be completed at a later date or would you run away? The bike is completely legal, it just seems he may not have all of the documents needed.

One last question - I have a blue book for my car, but I keep seeing a mention that the seller has to SIGN the green book? I see nowhere on my blue book to sign so is the green book different and if so, where does the seller sign?
