I will be 69 in a few months. I am diabetic and managing without drugs, but diet 70% and exercise 30% emphasis. In Canada I have greater span of control for choice and quality of groceries and cooking our own food. My spouse and I also hav eto manage LDL cholesterol

We wil spend 2 months at 2 place at Chiang Mai Gate (Noble House and Smith Residence) . We are quite familiar with this vicinity and the Wororot market area, as well KSK mall. We will not be able to cook our own food. However we will be able to indulge a lot more in fresh fruit, vegetables, leafy greens and eggs. We have an electric kettle, small steaming pot and for a month a microwave.Concern is with getting rid of residual pesticides on plant, veg and fruits. Do these have to be washed with bottled water?

Our primary concern is eating healthy, non touristy Thai food. Our palate thrives on it. The herbs and spices are the reason. Are there places where we can get simple barbecued or deep fried fish, chicken, pork? There are restos in the area and we love stir fried dishes, but have reservations as to the oils these vendors use and how often they are refreshed?

If there are any of you that have managed to find healthy protein eating places in the Chiang Mai Gate area, kindly suggest such places we can patronize.

Thank you

Dennis

Dennis, I don't know Chiang Mau, but if your worried about your vegetables, I wash them with 1 cup of vinegar and two cups of water, and then rinse with water to get rid of the vinegar taste. I use bottled water, but in Chiang Mai I would assume tap water would be fine.

I think the best places for those watching their blood sugars are probably Salad bars. Sizzler has a great salad bar and great protein choices from the menu. I believe there are 2 locations in Chiang Mai.
