It's the quietest thread on the Forum when thigs ain't going their way...

It'll probably liven up after second leg against Hamburg on Thursday night; they'll either be gloating over a remarkable comeback, or, more likely, discussing Mark Hughes dismissal. Should they fail to progress, I'll be very surprised if the owner doesn't take the opportunity to show him the door afterwards. Odds on with the bookmakers.

Hallo,

Manchester City played quite well last night against my Hamburg team and deserved the 2:1 win. But unfortunately that was not enough to advance in the UEFA Cup after the 1:3 defeat a week ago. And so I have to congratulate the Hamburger SV for their heroic efforts against the Blues. And sorry Mark Hughes, maybe one superstar like Robinho is not enough. Martin Jol is an excellent coach...

Well done Hamburg, good luck for the next round against Werder Bremen!

I want us to wait till the end of the season to ditch Mark Hughes. But if we don't get 3 points today, then I'd like to ditch him straight after the match and before he has chance to walk down the tunnel :wai:

As for UEFA Cup. I thought we were unlucky the other night. At least we went out battling. I don't mind as much losing if the team are battling. It's when they seem not to give a sh1t, when it gets to me.

It's gonna be a tough one with so many key players out. A point would be a good result from this one.

From the Man City website:-

MARK HUGHES has given an update on the City squad's current injury list, and the Blues will definitely be without Shaun Wright-Phillips for Saturday's game at Everton.

A troublesome ankle injury has prevented SWP from playing in City's last three games, and that run will now stretch to at least four.

The Manager has also confirmed that Craig Bellamy's knee problem will keep him out for the next couple of weeks, although he retains hope that the Welsh striker could feature before the season ends.

He said, "Shaun is still feeling a bit of discomfort and we are hopeful for next week but he will not be available for Everton.

"Craig will be back at the club on Monday, and we will check him out then. He needed two weeks' complete rest, and he needs strengthening work to take the strain off the knee. There might be a possibility that he might be available to take some part in the last couple of games, but if there is any doubt or possible risk then we won't do that."

Elsewhere, Hughes will have to leave it as late as possible before deciding on the make-up of his midfield against the Toffees.

"Nigel de Jong has not trained this week after getting a bang on his thigh" he added. "We will have to check him nearer game-time and he is a doubt.

"Pablo Zabaleta is definitely out, he has gone to see the same specialist that Vincent Kompany did a couple of weeks ago. He is back with us now and more positive, but he won't be available for Everton."

Happy to see they exceeded your aspirations for once, Mr BJ!

I'll have to be more pessimistic in the future lawling :o

An away win - what next? Now they have discovered that they can do it, what are their chances of doing it again at Man U and Spurs?

Obviously i'd love to win at Old T but the key one is against Spurs. A big 6 pointer for whoever wants that 7th spot.

It's going to be a long summer with regards to the rumour mill:-

From skysports

City insistent over Barca talks

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes insists that any meeting with Barcelona was merely to build relations.

Executive chairman Garry Cook is understood to have met with Barca president Joan Laporta in a bid to build relations between the two clubs.

Reports have since claimed that City were looking to broker a deal for Barca star Samuel Eto'o.

City have already denied making any such offer and now Hughes has insisted that they are talking with a number of 'big' clubs as they look to be taken seriously by the elite.

"There has been speculation about players all year," Hughes told Key103.

"It is something that we accept and has become predictable.

"The meeting was not about individuals but how both clubs can help each other.

"As a club, we are trying to get relationships with clubs who would not previously have passed the time of day with us.

"Now, because of Sheikh Mansour [City owner], they want to have a relationship and talk about plans that would benefit both clubs.

"We are aiming to have this kind of relationship with all top clubs in Europe."

I done a BCC Predictor about 4 or so Games ago & had you lot finishing 7th anyway cos of your Home Games..

That was obviously before the Everton Away win too which is 3 bonus points, a win at the Spuds would do it for you me thinks but we'll finish on 52 Points me thinks & that's with a draw at Stoke tomorrow so a win would put us well back into the mixer, Fulham 51 & that's with a Point at St James's & the Spuds on 51 or less of you win there..

All the Gmaes i mentioned of reach Team are those Teams key Games..

I watched this interview and due to coming to Thailand for many years ive become expert at spotting when someone is lying, mostly its when their lips move, but when Sparky was asked a question he was would "look down" when answering which is the give away sign someome is lying.

City have got to be offering silly money for one of Barca's almost past their prime stars (Eto) on the basis Messi's not likely to want to leave Barca for them no matter how much they offer him.

If they were talking about things that were beneficial to both clubs surely it wouldnt hurt to go a little more indepth about what these talks were about, instead of being evasive.

Possibly. But I think speculation over big name signings to City will get tiresome this summer. I'm gonna wait until someone actually arrives.

I've got a really good Book you'll like San, it's called " How to tell a Liar " & is written by an American Phychologist & if you can get your head past the Americanism of the Book, it's superb & tells you all the signs of Body Language, Facial Expressions, Posture etc etc etc, would recommened it massively if you're interested in that sort of thing..

Trouble was, i read it then had the privelage of watching Gary Cooke in the Kaka saga and..................... :)

Will i find it under the Thai culture section? if i were ever to get a Thai GF, it sounds like a perfect gift to know i'm on to her.

If you see a manager like Allardyce/ Redknapp they can answer any question as straight as they wish, hence theyre not often evasive. Poor old Sparky who has always come across as a decent old Skool kind of guy does come across as if he's a bit on the outside when it comes to who is being bought.

I doubt they'd allow it to be translated in Thai San if i'm honest, it would drastically damage the Isaan Economy if they did... :D

Read the Book, then watch a Redknapp Interview & then you'll realise why i despise the Man, you got it spot on... :)

From the City website:-

Kompany: We're ready for the big one

VINCENT KOMPANY reckons the thumping 3-1 victory over Blackburn to stretch City's successful run to four wins on the spin is the perfect preparation to next Sunday's derby at Old Trafford.

Latin America stars Felipe Caicedo, Robinho and Elano, from the penalty spot, hit first-half goals that left relegation battlers Blackburn - Mark Hughes' old club - with an uphill struggle at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Victory not only keeps the Blues at the heart of the chase for seventh place and a Europa League place next season but, according to Vince, is a confident platform from which to tackle next weekend's big game.

The Belgium star said: "That's the fourth win in a row, including the Hamburg tie at home, and we have proved that we are a good side. We are doing what we need to do before a big game for us at United.

"I'm happy to say that it's not just our home form that is good but the form in general, because in there you have the away win at Everton. Four in a row where you get a good result - you couldn't build any more confidence for the next game."

Kompany and Nigel de Jong sat dominant in the centre of midfield, as they did at Goodison Park, to allow Robinho and Elano the freedom to entertain the crowd as well as inflict real damage to the Rovers defence.

The ex-Hamburg favourite, who played a role in the opener by Caicedo, said: "As usual, we needed the first goal to feel that we were getting a grip on the game and it happened for us. After that it was just a matter of waiting for the other goals to come. We were well organised and got forward quickly.

"We knew our half-time lead was deserved, and the intention was to keep going and score a couple more. Unfortunately they got the penalty but for the whole game we defended well - the result is a pretty clear reflection of what happened.

"Even if we didn't play as well in the second half as the first, we didn't give many chances away and that's the important thing. We conceded a penalty, which can always happen, but we didn't give any chances away."

The battle for seventh spot is likely to go to the last day, with City at Old Trafford then Europa rivals Tottenham before signing off at home to Bolton on May 24th.

Kompany added: "I hope we can get nine points - I wouldn't be playing football if I didn't think we could win every game - but hopefully six or seven will be enough."

From the Mail on Sunday:-

"It's like watching Brazil as Robinho and Elano shine"

Joe Bernstein writes: Brazilian soulmates Robinho and Elano are finally producing the samba football Manchester City fans have been waiting for all season.

After a freezing winter of discontent, the South Americans have started to shine now that the sun is peeping through the clouds in Manchester.

Between them, they were far too classy for a Blackburn Rovers side whose only connection with Samba was using their 6ft 4in centre-half up front. Sam Allardyce would have been better off playing Christopher Samba in his more familiar position.

After Ecuador's Felipe Caicedo had broken the deadlock, Robinho added his 14th league goal of the season with a cracking shot from the edge of the box.

Before half-time, Elano had added City's third from the penalty spot - and he deserved it for some of the party tricks that had fans jumping out of their seats to applaud.

City Boss Mark Hughes said: 'Our home form is as good as anyone in the league. We play the kind of football that people enjoy. Robbie is an outstanding talent and he scored a great goal. He knows he has been disappointing on occasions but he is not the only one. The key is to bring in more players that can help him shine.'

Robinho is happy to admit the recent higher temperatures in the North-West have helped his form. 'Now, we've got the weather, it is just like being in Brazil. I don't miss much when the sun shines,' he said. 'I play with a smile and a happiness and I want our fans to be proud of the club and smile.'

City's breakthrough goal midway through the first-half was rather scruffy. Elano's cross was half-cleared to Vincent Kompany and when he fed the ball back into the penalty area, Caicedo scuffed his finish past Paul Robinson.

That might not have been pretty, but what followed had City fans justifiably singing: 'It's just like watching Brazil'.

Elano's 40-yard crossfield pass swept to the feet of Stephen Ireland and was followed by a through-ball backheeled with his right foot. Robinho took the more direct approach and when Elano's cross was helped on by Nedum Onuoha, the £34million Brazilian fired home a crisp, low finish from 18 yards.

City's third owed much to the burgeoning relationship between Robinho and Ireland.

Robinho spotted the Irishman's run on the stroke of half-time and when Ireland tried to flick the ball over Gael Givet, the Frenchman handled it.

Three Rovers players were booked for protesting but the unruffled Elano sent Robinson the wrong way from the spot and buried a low finish in the bottom right-hand corner.

Rovers pegged one back after Onuoha fouled Morten Gamst Pedersen. El-Hadji Diouf fired the spot-kick straight at Shay Given but Keith Andrews followed in to score.

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce said: 'We were comfortable for most of the game but gave away stupid goals. We didn't do basic things like clearing the ball.'
