Phornchanok Chaiyapa and taxi driver Somchai Kaewbangyang kneel down to ask for forgiveness from the soul of a 79-year-old Japanese teacher yesterday. They confessed to killing and dismembering the victim.

BANGKOK: -- The Thai woman, whose Japanese partner 79-year-old Yoshinori Shimato was reported missing, has now confessed to having a hand in his murder and the dismembering of his body, police said yesterday.

Police revealed that Phornchanok Chaiyapa and taxi driver Somchai Kaewbangyang confessed on Thursday night after their daughter and Phornchanok's mother showed up at police request and persuaded them to tell the truth.

New information revealed that Somchai was previously married to Phornchanok.

The cabbie claimed Phorn-chanok had called him, complaining that Shimato was refusing to give her money. So, he said he armed himself with a knife and rode his motorbike to her home.

Finding them in bed, he suffocated the Japanese man with a pillow.

Somchai then dragged the victim's body into a bathroom, where he hacked the body into pieces, before putting these parts in fertiliser sacks and loading them on

to a pickup to drop the bags off at different locations.

"Jealousy and money issues are key motives," Provincial Police Region 1 acting chief Maj-General Amnuay Nimmano said.

He added that there was solid evidence and police should be able to conclude the investigation in 15 days.

Somchai and Phornchanok were taken to several spots to re-enact their alleged crime yesterday.

After Shimato's death made the headlines this week, the daughter of Phornchanok's previous husband, Katsutoshi Tanaka, came forward to call on police to re-open her father's case.

Tanaka reportedly died from falling down the stairs in 2003.

Keiko Matta, 31, said she suspected foul play, especially since Phornchanok reportedly claimed Bt3 million from Tanaka's life insurance.

Matta is Tanaka's daughter from another woman.

Police spokesman Lt-General Prawut Thavornsiri said Tanaka's case would only be re-opened if there was new evidence.

"The statute of limitations for a murder is 20 years," he pointed out.

Nation Police Office's Level 10 adviser General Korkiat Wongworachat has been put in charge of cases related to Phornchanok, Prawut said.

The bit that puzzles me is the death of the first husband. If someone takes out life insurance policies and a short time later the insured dies surely that must raise some warning flags if just for the insurance company? Yet the police announced at the time no suspicious circumstances and no autopsy was carried out and he was cremated within two days of his death.

I'm surprised that Thailand has a statute of limitations for murder. Most countries do not, although in Japan it was 15 years, recently changed to 25 years.

Death Penalty ?? 1zgarz5.gif

Death penalty? No, of course not. Can't you see from the pic that they are really sorry and remorseful and learned from their lesson. They asked for forgiveness, so that's that. Back to business.

This is Thailand

Black Widow! Heheee cant the news think up a name other than copying it from a previous killers?

A shame this happening and all because the man refused to give that woman some money.

Guys remember this article when your woman asks you for some cash!

This is not the first time a farang had met his demise by a Thai lady over money.

And not the first time where the "brother" was involved!!coffee1.gif

It was inevitable she was gonna be dubbed the 'Black Widow.'

She should have been called 'The Yellow Widow.'

Thats a name that would distinguish her. So next time she is easier to spot.

Even by a half blind japanese octogenarian

"She called him complaining that Shimato was refusing to give her money"

"So he armed himself with a knife and rode his motorbike to her home"

They were in it together for the money!!! Can at least the "jealousy" crap be dropped please?

These are two evil, disgusting, despicable, morally and mentally sick individuals.

Prison is too good for them.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Shimato,

May condolences to to all involved and hurt by this senseless act.

They will be punished, but no punishment will bring him(or maybe them) back, nor will any sick acts of retribution. So stop fantasizing.

One would think that mariticide never happens in any other country and it is a Thai only act.

Sadly a little racism might be influencing some by the comments here? Or is it just personal concern for their position in life.

SAMUT PRAKAN – Police say a taxi driver has confessed to murdering the 79-year-old Japanese teacher whose remains were found in a canal this week, as well as the Japanese man his girlfriend was previously living with in 2003.

Somchai Kaewbangyang told police he smothered 79-year-old Yoshinori Shimato to death with a pillow and then dismembered his body into pieces, says Pol.Gen.Somsakchai Armonsongcharen. Yoshinori’s remains were found in a canal in Samut Prakan on Tuesday.

Somchai was first linked to the murder through his partner, Pornchanok Chaiyapa, who was initially arrested for allegedly using the Yoshinori’s ATM card to steal money from his bank account after his death. She was later named a suspect in the murder case, along with her partner Somchai.
