I am trying to convert my old 8mm tapes to digital. Three of the cassettes are bad. One has a broken tape, and two load, but won't play and get ejected. Is there anywhere in the BKK area that can fix these? I have tried MBK and the IT Mall on Phetkasem, but no luck.

You can fix them yourself to a certain degree.

Cut a strip of sellotape the same width as the cassette tape....place the sellotape sticky side up on a surface and align the tape rearside down to the sello and press onto it, repeat with the other side of the snapped cassette, done this so many times over the years it works a treat (best done wearing gloves).....you will need to snip the end of the cassette tape though as tapes never snap with a clean cut and often stretch. The bigger the stretch the bigger the audio/video gap.

The ones that wont play and eject will probably have some form of tension, one of the wheels is jamming somehow, players refuse them if they are exceeding a certain amount of torque, this is to protect your player/recorder. Sometimes bending the tape's housing a little back and forth helps eliminate this. You could open up the case and investigate if you are confident in doing so, somewhere might need cleaning or need some lube applying.

Agree with the above. In the past I frequently repaired damaged tapes on my reel to reel gear using a tape splicer which I see can be purchased on eBay. I'd cut the tape at 45 degree angles and use Sellotape as described.

Worth a try.
