Thanks for the replies i will take a look, much cheaper than expected I was looking in the toiletries aisles in Rimping and Central Festival and expecting a small box with fancy packaging at a exorbitant price but didn't find anything so 45 Baht a Kilo is great news.

I have been buying Epsom salts at Union Science for 3 months using 1 KG a week. Several days ago, we put our usual 2 cups in our tub of hot water and it quickly turned to a diarrhea brown. We returned the open bag and a glass jar of the water which we saved. The "helpful" staff with typical Thai logic said they couldn't refund or exchange the bag because we had opened it. Never mind the fact that only by opening and using the contents did we find that the product appeared to be tainted.

Test some of the suspected Epsom salt in some other known clean water such as drinking water

I have heard of impure epsom salts doing that in clean water but have only experienced when my water quality got funky.

Also look for dark particles in the salts. If they are all white then quite a mystery.

We tried another new pack of the salts and the same brown color occurred using both tap and drinking water.

Sounds like they are selling funky stuff these days

Amazing Thailand. Can't even get Epsom salts right

Fortunately its not big money.

I guess another reason I am leaning toward moving back to US.

You can buy a 5 pound tub at Walmart for $4

In Thailand its an odyssey to find it and then it's junk

Yeesh

As selfish as it sounds I hope you have purchased all the dud packs smile.png I'll buy a couple of packs tomorrow one of the cheap and one of the more expensive ones and let you know my findings.

The three packs I purchased of which I tried two were from the same lot. US repacks from 25KG bulk to individual 1KG so US is labeling the packs themselves. The MS comes from China so that tells you how reliable the quality can be. I do have to admit, the MS for the 1st 3 months was fine.

A lot of people think Magnesium Sulphate is just to make your muscles feel better but its really important to get transdermal sources of magnesium because dietary magnesium is hard to absorb.

Even if a person is eating tons of green vegetables magnesium is often running low. Most studies show it is the number one/two deficiency in humans.

The other choice for transdermal magnesium is Magnesium Chloride. It costs a bit more than Magnesium Sulphate.

Thailand is so far behind when it comes to health management and knowledge.

e.g. consider how many people are walking around with rotten dental health. That just hammers a persons mineral/vitamin status.

I got round to purchasing 2x 1KG bags from Union Science same happened with mine, turns the water a horrible brown color. The more expensive packs are apparently for oral use. Back to the drawing board - Might have to check out the fancy imported brands at Rimping though I couldn't find any last time I searched.

Another option which I am using more is to buy the Magnesium Chloride crystals

It's supposed to be better absorbed transdermally.

They are maybe 500 baht for 500 grams but a little goes a long way.

I dissolve in it clean water and apply with spray bottle

Can google Magnesium Oil to read about it

Good way to apply magnesium without having to use baths

If Epsom salt is packagaged in large quantities, then it's intended for agricultural use or maybe for a body soak. Don't use consume it orally. It's not food grade!
