English guy confused by visa runs - please help lol

Featured Replies

At the Thai Embassy in Sweden I know people have showed tickets out/in with bus and train for double and triple tourist visas. But I would guess the rules can change a bit depending on what embassy in Europe that you use.

Exactly! Dont understansd why they have those rules at certain embassys.

Any clue how can I buy bus or train tickets online or something?

I am just confused as to why the fact that the OP is confused by visa runs makes him laugh out loud!

Phone - ask - report here.

Called once and told the that i dont know when i will be coming back and will book return ticket later, they said NO. But also said that bus/train/taxi ticket exiting the country will do.

The even have it on their Swedish website.

Any tip on how buying tickets is appriciated.

Thanks for your explanation and an update of the to the cost of the visa to Cambodia as I quoted the old cost!

However, since the last info supplied by the OP was that he was in Chiang Mai,

"I arrived in Thailand by plane and was granted 30 days. I then went to immigration in chiang mai and extended for another 30 days."

I don't see the relevance of quoting van service cost from Bangkok and especially as you did in your previous post with no explanation of the 3000 baht, which only added ambiguity to the thread but did increase your post count!

"Something people often fails to mention is their budget. One thing is having to do it with Bt 3,000 while for others money is not an issue."

I see some relevance in knowing the budget. Low budget means DIY, I. E. Public bus etc. High budget could get you on a plane somewhere.

But then again the question was just for options in general. My bet would be Savannaket and get a tourist visa.

The important thing to remember is that it can all change at any time.

Arriving on 30 day stamp and then extending more than once IS an abuse of the system, admittedly an abuse that has been tolerated for years.

Tourists should get a tourist visa, they are easy to get.

If the Immigration Officer grants entry to the country when the OP returns then it is NOT an abuse of the system, it is up to the Immi Officer to decide this not you

You are correct, which is why I added that it's an abuse that has been tolerated for years. Only a few months ago there was chaos at the border when immigration decided that they no longer tolerate it. It appears that to some extent it's now "back to normal", the the correct way for a tourist to spend more than a month here is to apply for a tourist visa with an appropriate number of entries. After all, it's very easy to do.

You can buy train tickets at some travel agents

A visa run service just reported at 0319 today on this thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/773865-visa-run/ that doing a border run to Mai Sai and getting a visa exempt entry and extending it for 30 days should not be a problem. If you want 60 +30 you will have to go to an Embassy/Consulate in a neighboring country and get a visa Savannakhet is currently issuing visas on the same day that they are applied for.

I,m not sure what the baht 3000 in the above post refers to. In either case you will have to enter the neighboring country and return to Thailand. Myanmar is 500 baht, Laos is $35 and Cambodia is $20. If you get a visa the cost is 1000 baht/entry and all extensions at immigration are 1900baht. The largest cost will be travel and that depends on your choice.

Myanmar is US$10 for a day trip (or up to 14 days at Tachilek), only suckers pay 500 Baht. Similarly, Cambodia charges US$30 for a tourist visa (up from 20 since October 1st) or US$35 for an ordinary visa, which the OP almost certainly won't need since he isn't planning on extending his Cambo visa and just wants to return to Thailand.

I am just confused as to why the fact that the OP is confused by visa runs makes him laugh out loud!

Possibly because the rules are constantly changing and it was my first one!

Apologies for being naive.. just didnt wanna end up stranded or being granted less time then i intended to stay...

Anyway its done now guys. Went to Laos and got 60 days. Thanks for all the help everyone :)
