53-year-old man found alive two days after swept by flash flood

BANgKOK: -- A 53-year-old man in Phatthalung was found unconscious on a canal bank two days after he was swept away by flash foods. Rescuers rushed Atthakom Pirom to a hospital after they spotted him lying unconscious.

The man left home Friday evening to collect bamboo shoots but disappeared after flash floods hit the area following heavy downpours.

11 million rai of land are to be reclaimed for redistribution to farmers

BANGKOK: -- The Office of Land Reform for Agriculture has been told by the Agriculture and Agricutural Cooperatives Ministry to seize back some five million rai of sor por kor land which were illegally occupied by non-farmers, said deputy permanent secretary for agriculture Mr Chavalit Chukachorn during the weekend.

Local fishermen protest against construction of coal pier in Krabi

KRABI: -- Local fishermen anchored some 100 boats at a pier in Krabi's Nua Klong district at 10 am Sunday to protest against a plan by the EGAT Plc to construct a coal pier there.

They said they fear that the transport of coal at the area would pollute the Krabi River mouth.

Vietnamese woman arrested for allegedly smuggling crystal meth

BANGKOK: -- A Vietnamese woman was arrested at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport at 7 pm Saturday for allegedly trying to smuggle 416 grammes crystal methamphetamine to Indonesia.

Customs officials found she had swallowed 44 tiny bags of the drug. She was stopped by customs officials who sent her for an x-ray and found she had suspicious objects in her stomach.

She was identified as Tran Thi Thuy Ngan, 30.
