You are aware that is a commercial bank and not used for normal accounts or transfers? What is used often is the ABA number to allow direct domestic transfers avoiding the SWIFT charges from accounts in the US directly into a Bangkok Bank Account in Thailand.

Enter the 9-digit routing number of Bangkok Bank's New York branch as 026008691
Enter the bank name as Bangkok Bank, New York branch
Enter the account number of the recipient at Bangkok Bank in Thailand
- For Thai Baht account, enter the 10-digit account number
- For US Dollar account, enter the first 16-digit account number
Enter the name of the recipient account in Thailand, if required.

Holders of US bank accounts can save on fees for international funds transfers by transferring funds from the United States to Thailand via the US Automated Clearing House system (US ACH) and Bangkok Bank's New York branch.

By stipulating the 9-digit routing number for Bangkok Bank's New York branch (026008691) in your US transfer instruction, the funds will be transferred via the US ACH system directly to the receiver's Bangkok Bank account in Thailand, for a lower fee than most other international wire transfer services.

Benefits of the service

Fees for funds transfers via the US ACH system and Bangkok Bank's New York branch are up to USD 20 lower than most other international wire transfer services in the US.

You can make transfers directly online via the internet banking service provided by your own bank in the US.

You will enjoy a better exchange rate because the USD amount will be converted to Thai Baht at the daily Bangkok Bank exchange rate in Thailand.

Who can use it?

The service is available for holders of US bank accounts transferring funds to recipients with a Bangkok Bank account in Thailand. It is particularly useful for:

Making funds transfers via the internet banking services of US banks

Receiving payments from US government agencies or private organizations (Direct Deposit service)

Receiving E-Commerce payments from online payment service providers in the US

The previous post says it all and it's from the Bangkok Bank website. I use ACH transfers every few months to move money from our U.S. credit union to our local Bangkok Bank account. Do it on-line as an "interbank transfer" and the funds show up in a few days here with minimal fees. Very slick way to move money.

Yes for a domestic transfer from one US bank to the Bangkok Bank in New York you use the same type of ABA or Fed routing number you would use for any domestic transfer.

For Bangkok Bank New York:

FED Routing No: 026008691
CHIPS ABA: 0869

You are aware that is a commercial bank and not used for normal accounts or transfers? What is used often is the ABA number to allow direct domestic transfers avoiding the SWIFT charges from accounts in the US directly into a Bangkok Bank Account in Thailand.

Enter the 9-digit routing number of Bangkok Bank's New York branch as 026008691
Enter the bank name as Bangkok Bank, New York branch

Enter the name of the recipient account in Thailand, if required.

It's not a standalone bank, it's a International branch of Bangkok Bank and you make deposits to it by domestic transfer as you could do to any branch of Bangkok Bank, using your existing Bangkok Bank account number. If you have an account in Pattaya, for example. you can make a deposit at any Bangkok Bank branch in Thailand or one of the International branches without having to open a new account at the branch where you are making the deposit.

Your sending bank will indicate what information is needed for the transfer, including your name exactly as it appears on your existing Bangkok Bank account, the account number and the Fed routing number. Once you've made one transfer online, your US bank will most likely save the information so that in future it requires only a click or two and the dollar amount.

"You are aware that is a commercial bank ..."

Most banks in the US that serve the general public are "commercial banks," including Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citi etc.

The term "commercial bank" in the US and UK simply distinguishes the sort of bank most of us use from an Investment Bank.

Commerical bank:

This is a financial institution providing services for businesses, organisations and individuals. Services include offering current, deposit and saving accounts as well as giving out loans to businesses. [1]

A commercial banks is defined as a bank whose main business is deposit-taking and making loans. This contrasts with an investment bank whose main business is securities underwriting, M&A advisory, asset management and securities trading.

The NY branch of Bangkok Bank is described as a "wholesale" bank, which would distinguish it from the typical "retail bank:" Yes, individuals cannot walk in and open a savings account, but then it isn't necessary since you would use your existing account held in Thailand, so the special status of the NY branch really doesn't matter to the average depositor.

The New York branch is a US federal chartered branch which functions as a wholesale bank.

There are many services available including:

  • Trade Finance
  • Corporate Lending
  • Remittance/Funds Transfer
  • Deposit Accounts (restricted)

My US bank does not subscribe to ACH, so I cannot receive a transfer to my Bangkok Bank account in Thailand by using the 9-diget routing number to Bangkok Bank in New York.

However, I see that BB New York does have a SWIFT code ( BKKB US 33}.  My US bank makes SWIFT transfers within the US at half the international  fee to Thailand.  If I transfer to New York by SWIFT, will it be credited to my BB Thailand account the same as if transferred by ACH?
