So here's the deal.

You fly down to bkk. You decide you want to go to pattaya say maybe 1 or 2 days before you travel back to bkk.

The most common thing would be to first book say the number of days you stay in bkk. Pack up all your stuff and travel with everything to you hotel destination in pattaya and then bring them back to bkk again.

The last time i travelled to pattaya with a friend i the majority of my stuff in my bkk room while i brought some clothing and essential items to travel to pattaya for 1 night before coming back to bkk so i basically missed out 1 night in my hotel room but still at least i could keep my stuff there.

I was just thinking could you store your luggage somewhere for say a short period of time so that you can travel around parts of thailand for a short period of time before returning back instead of having to bring all your luggage with you all the time.

Can leave bags at Suvarnabhumi, departures for ฿100 a day.

Always convenient for me so looked no further.

But you need to travel to the airport first.

Yep, but flying in & out of Bangkok I always try to fly into Suvarnabhumi rather than Don Muang.

Like I said, convenient for me, maybe not for others.

Have you asked if your Bkk hotel will store your not needed luggage for the days you are away in Pattaya?

Most hotels, or at least the larger ones, usually have a storage facility, and would be prepared to store your bags whilst you are away. Would not recommend having any valuables in the luggage, though.

The poster giving the advice of Bkk airport sounds ok as well. Given that the airport is on the way to Pattaya you can travel there by airport link then onto Pattaya by bus. Or, if travelling by taxi, just a minor detour to drop your stuff off, then pickup on the way back. There are restrictions on contents but that can be checked ahead of time. Can't really see the hassle with that.

Yes the airport sounds good too.

Would the hotels store your luggage if you didn't book a room for that night? Wonder if the huge ones offer that service.

If you had the room booked for that night you could simply store it in your own room. Important items either locked in the safe or carried with you.

It goes like this. Maybe reach bkk first. Check into hotel say for 1 night. Next 2 nights won't be in bkk just bringing along a few clothing. No bookings for a room at the hotel for the next 2 nights either but luggage will be stored at the hotel for the next 2 nights. Travels elsewhere around bkk region next 2 nights. Comes back to bkk hotel and collects luggage either continues staying at same hotel or goes elsewhere with luggage.

I have used hotels where I have stayed to store (in their store room) personal belongings/luggage while I traveled elsewhere many times. I wpuld book my return and occasionally told them travels plans were not firm I would notify them as to my return. I would note these were larger hotels, some might say upmarket facilities. Never tried this in some of hotels where after my intial stay the service, atmosphere, etc seemed wanting.

The issue is what constitutes a larger hotel.

5 star hotels would definitely allow most of the time but there are really so many hotels around. Especially for foreigners they can easily afford many 4 star hotels and these hotels are considered pretty upmarket too. I guess you need to ask around. Might i ask which hotel allowed you to store your stuff?

Centerpoint Silom has two luggage rooms for that purpose. I've used it and it was free

The luggage storage room in a hotel is meant as a customer service, so I expect you have to be a customer first to use this service. If you do not stay or have reservation to stay in a hotel I doubt they will store luggage for you. But you never know, The desk person could see it as a quick way to make a few extra baht.

well it goes like this. You stay in the hotel for say 1 night. You need to leave the next day or 2 days to any place let's say pattaya. You won't be bringing everything there just a few change of clothing. You need to store your luggage for the next 2 nights so maybe the hotel can help. At this point you won't be a customer of the hotel after staying 1 night and it doesn't make sense to book another 2 nights in the hotel since you won't even be staying there at all but you hope they can keep your luggage for you either foc or not.

Perhaps after returning from pattaya you will be staying in the same hotel again.

I have never found a standard hotel in Bangkok that did not have a baggage holding service and very few have ever required a return reservation. Small guest houses excluded.

I know a number of offshore workers who visit Thailand regularly and always leave a bag with the clothes they wear here at their hotel so they don't have to lug it back and forth. Hotels routinely hold bags for months at a time.

Once, I helped a friend find a lost bag at the Sheraton baggage room; a very large room with 100's of bags. The bellhop said some of them had been there for years. I'm sure there are any number of bags in local hotel storage, left by people who will never return; whether by death or change of circumstance.

I've always used the luggage room at Hualumphun station. Cheap as chips (unlike the airports), convenient to the CBD and I've found it wholly reliable and secure. I've left bags there for a month or more - no problems.
