My Education Visa Experience and Update

Recommended Posts

A lot is changing with the education visa.... I first started back in August, paid for the full year with The Knowledge language school, lake Rajada building, Asoke. It is a really professional organisation and I enjoy the classes. When I joined the law was attend 4 hours of classes a week (which I do) to be eligible for an education visa. My school informed me yesterday that from January 2015 all students must attend 8 hours of classes a week (which is not a problem) but there will be an additional cost of up to 20,000 baht (originally paid 28,000 baht for the whole year) which for me is an impossibility now as my fiance (Filipina) and I are having a baby in less than 4 weeks and all money is needed for that.

Also regarding immigration and the MOE... I went to immigration last week to get my first 90 day extension, all went well with no problems. However, the immigration official advised us that the MOE (Ministry of Education) only issue the approval for visa every 120 days, meaning at the end of the 90 day extension immigration can only issue the next extension for a 4 week period, then when the MOE issue the next approval for visa extension then i have to go back and apply for the next 90 days (see below)

Visa Approval from MOE - Issued from Nov 2014 to 12th February 2015

current Immigration extension valid until 26th January 2015

need to extend on 26th Jan but immigration can only issue extension until 12th Feb 1,900 baht

12th Feb go back to immigration to apply for next 90 day extension 1,900 baht.

This will occur throughout the whole year, totaling 12,000 baht in visa extensions.

I hope i have explained this is an understandable way and helps individuals contemplating whether an ED visa is the best option for them.

The school will go back to the MOE and get another document before your extension is due again so the that you will get the entire 90 days.

I think the document from the MOE is valid for 120 days the date of issue. That gives time to get the extension done before it ends.

You should talk to the school about prorating what you have paid for already into additional classes instead of the original one year.

That's what I also thought Joe, I asked the girl in charge of arranging the visas for the language school and her reply was "it is up to the MOE when they issue the next approval, she cannot make a request for it".....she said many students have this problem which I am finding a bit troublesome....I don't want to state negative things about anyone but am finding the attitude and willingness from this person to find out correct information a challenging one to ignore...I have spoken to the director of the language school and they are in agreement with their staff!!!
