Floods cause havoc in many southern provinces

BANGKOK: -- Heavy rains for several consecutive days in southern Thailand have caused floodings in vast areasc of many provinces from Trang in the west coast to Songkhla in the east coast and Narathiwat in the southernmost

Sungai Kolok river overflowd banks and inundated hundreds of homes by the river.

Roads were flooded and rising water levk.forced peopke to evacute their belonging to higher grounds.

In Trang, water runoff from Bantad mountain range swept homes in many villages of Muang district.

Large areas of paddy fields and rubber plantations were flooded and village roads submerged, cutting off several villages from outside.

Meanwhile a three year old child was drowned when flashflood swept her home Klongtom dustruct.

Rescue team spent over an hour to locate and plug her body out from water about 800 metres from home.

In Songkhla rough sea barred fishermen from going out in high sea for fishing.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department.warned of high waves and strong wind for the next several days and is working with authorities in 10 southern provinces to prepare for more flooding from rains.
