I know there have been similar posts but I just wanted to thank the posters on the forum and people who have been through the experience that shared their experiences. It really helped us.

A little bit of information about our application for an Australian Spouse Visa and timeframes.

We applied on the 28th March 2006, my wife had her interview on the 15th of May, and we received the call that the visa had been approved on the 2nd of August.

We handled the application process ourselves after much homework and reading of this site with most of our questions answered by great posts previous.

After my wifes interview we were requested supplementary documents, which i posted to the embassy. My only complaint about the process would be the lack of feedback and ability to contact the embassy. For example i had no idea whether my supplimentary documents had been received as emails went unanswered, and of course calling them is discouraged, which i can understand in a way.

Nonetheless we are thrilled and looking forward to beginning our lives together back in Australia.

Kind Regards

Simon and Dao.

Hi Jockstar, Yes i can confirm my wife's interview was 15th of MAY, approx 7 weeks after we lodged our application. I must say i was a little suprised to be approved now, i was expecting sometime next month at the earliest. Im sure you are not far away, best of luck!

Hi Ozspike, again i hope you get your call soon, when do you plan to take Bui to the U.K. ?

Regards

Hi Simon

We fly from Bangkok on the 29th Aug, If we havent heard from them by 14th I will email the embassy and explain our position and say if its close to being approved it would make the return flight much easier if we could fly straight back to Perth and not have to stop to drop Pui off in Bangkok. I will ask as nicely as I can and cross my fingers.

And Jockstar we had our interview on the 21st April(same day we lodged to App) but i now think the clock starts from the application and not the interview.

Had you taken your follow up papers into the Immigration head office in your Capital City, they could have placed them into the official mail bag to be sent to the Australian Embassy in Bangkok.

No need to worry about that now. Congratulations on your success. :o

Congratulations Simon and Dao and thanks for the timeline ……….I will be going through the same process in the near future.

From the sound of your application you were well prepared with all the necessary docs and so I am very curious to know what supplementary docs were required by the embassy. And how did your wife feel about the interview?

Hi will,

Yes i believe we were well prepared and had everything we needed. However i was still uneasy throughout the wait and thinking the worst.

The supplimentary documents which they requested were

1) Confirmation letter of employment and salary (i gave them this already but sent another?!)

2) Previous two tax assessment notices. (Didnt think i had to give this originally - had given already confirmation of employment, recent payslips and print out of bank accounts and thought that would be enough. My previous two tax assessments were pitifilly low due to travel but sent them anyway)

3) A signed stat dec stating i had never sponsored anyone before (There is a section in the application form this is covered, and i had lodged/supplied a freedom to marry form from the embassy already - but sent a stat dec anyway.

As for the interview i was more nervous than my wife! I made sure she was well drilled and there are some useful posts around on some of the things asked. I asked her to dress smartly and not wear any obvious gold etc. Aparently it went quite quickly and only cursory questions were asked which she answered easily. Not the grilling i was expecting.

Best of luck!
