Passports can now be issued in 2 days

BANGKOK: -- Passports can now be issued within one or two days of an application being lodged, Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathai said.

Until now the delay has been three working days. From today, the process has been shortened.

Passport renewal, and tracking relatives overseas could now be done by computer, which would hasten the process.

New digital passports containing microchips would be issued to government officials and diplomatic passport holders from June, and to the general public after that. Tourist visas would also be granted quicker, within 15 minutes, if the applicants had a clean record.

That's interesting. Since my wife got her new (machine readable) passport 2 years ago in 1 days. Dropped application off in the morning, picked it up in the late afternoon. Think she probably paid extra.
