Free bus rides to nine temples of nine kings in Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Transit Authority will provide free air-conditioned buses to shuttle people to and from nine temples built to honour the nine kings of the Chakkri Dynastry, Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said Tuesday.


The free bus services will be available from December 31 to January 4. She said her ministry would also hand out free manuals on how to visit and pays respects to the nine temples.

Thai agriculture ministry to launch overall rubber reform

Khon Kaen to hold "International Silk Festival 2014” from 29 Nov - 10 Dec

KHON KAEN, 25 November 2014 (NNT) – Khon Kaen will hold three important cultural festivals in one event during 29 November - 10 December 2014, in front of the Provincial Hall.

The event was announced at a press conference presided over by Khon Kaen Governor Kamthon Thawonsathit and Mr. Boonsi Wongbuasi, Consul General of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to Thailand. The three festivals to begin at the end of this month include the International Silk Festival, the Phuk Siao Tradition and the Khon Kaen Red Cross Fair 2014.

The Governor said the event will include exhibitions and trading stalls of Thai silk and signature products from six countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion namely Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand. All booths will be designed and decorated in their own styles, to be located inside the main air-conditioned dome.

Moreover, cultural troupes from China and eight ASEAN nations will take turns staging their performances everyday throughout the event, which is expected to attract a lot of visitors from nearby provinces and tourists from nationwide. Admission is free.

Cabinet authorizes Culture Min to host 9 New Year activities

BANGKOK, 25 November 2014 (NNT) – The Cabinet has approved the Culture Ministry’s holding of nine activities as gifts for the Thai people during the New Year holiday.


According to Culture Minister Weera Rojpotchanarat, a green light has been given at this week’s Cabinet meeting to his ministry’s proposal to organize a total of nine events for the public to enjoy this New Year’s. Some of them are religious activities, such as a nine-temple tour to pay tribute to the nine Kings of the Rattanakosin era, overnight praying on New Year’s Eve and cycling along temple trails in 14 provinces. Renowned Buddha images will also be temporarily installed at 44 museums nationwide to allow visitors to pay their respect.

Meanwhile, historical parks and ancient sites across Thailand will be open for the public free of charge until January 15 while a Thai puppet troupe is scheduled to stage performances through the four regions of the country.

The Ministry of Culture will also cooperate with department stores to hold an event to invite New Year revelers to give baskets of OTOP goods to one another as New Year presents.

Bang Na passport office to move to Thanya mall

BANGKOK: -- The Foreign Ministry's Office of Passports Division located in Bangkok's Central Bang Na shopping centre will shut down on December 4 and move to a new facility on the second floor of Thanya Shopping Park.


The new facility will be open from December 9 onward.

Obec issues self-protection handbooks for students

BANGKOK: -- The Office of Basic Education Commission (Obec) has printed 35,000 copies of self-protection handbooks for students, which will be distributed to schools nationwide, Obec chief Kamol Rodklai said Tuesday.


The handbook will provide practical guidelines to helping students in dangerous situations such as accidents like falling from a height, drowning, sexual violence, premature pregnancy and drug-related issues, he said.
