A word of warning on Samsung and Sandisk

Featured Replies

We've been issuing new phones to a load of our users this week (myself included), and a number of people have complained about pictures (specifically) being corrupted when a Sandisk Memory card is transferred from the old to the new (Samsung) phone, both S5's and Note 4's.

I lost about half of the ones on my card, they are just unreadable but the files still appear to be there. Everything else is OK, at least it seems to be; I have a fair chunk of music on there and none of that seems to be affected.

Looking at various news sources, this is a problem that primarily rests with SanDisk - they have admitted that they made batches of bad cards and will swap them out (at least in the US) for free if you contact them. But it only applies to SanDisk cards in Samsung phones.

But if you want to avoid the problem, I'd recommend you backup the data on your SanDisk MicroSD before you insert it.

The general recommendation is to use Samsung EVO cards (surprise surprise).

A 64Gb Class 10 SDXC that will read at 48MB/s is $25 on Amazon.

No, my company generously lets employees keep them so they normally get handed down to relatives.

That's already rooted and running HyperDrive 7.0.

Ok

Fair enough .. I fancied a Note 3 :-D

The new Dual Sim Note 3 Neo is fantastic, it operates as a dual sim S4 with larger screen.

Bettery life is very good too with 3100 mah

One of my colleagues went for the S5 Duos.

Nice bit of kit, but a bit small for my failing eyesight.

I had the same problem with a 32GB Sandisk Micro SD last July...put it into a new phone (Lenovo) and half the pics disappeared...music and videos OK. I had bought it 6 months previously at Pantip so I figured I may have gotten a counterfeit, though most of the reports for bad cards sold there were phony 32 & 64 Kingstons.

Maybe not a counterfeit, just a bad card. Moot point: binned and gone.
