On going road works at junction of 117 with the 121 ,whats up ?

Featured Replies

These road works near Mae Rim are on going for one year plus ,without any noticeable result .What are they doing there ,does anybody know .?

That's Highway 107, not 117. They're putting in an underpass, however they're doing it on Mexican time.

Look on the bright side. At least there aren't any traffic lights! Now, if they'd only make a roundabout, they'd save a heap of money, and traffic would flow a lot quicker. Less "kick backs" I guess......

Initially it was contracted to be a multi year project, 3 or maybe 4 years, not sure but long. Been told several times that there is a late penalty if it is not completed on time, 1 million Baht per late day.

The job was always planned to finish July 2015, at least that is what it says on the boards. They have actually done quite a bit of work but as most of it is about foundations there is not much to see yet. I actually get to Chiang Mai from Maerim quicker on my morning school run than I did before the roadworks but then I use a rat-run. I have never understood the need for the underpass but it was contracted in Yingluck time and there are a number of family homes on Green Valley but that would be a preposterous reason for it. A roundabout? Now that would be interesting because nobody seems to know how to use one here.

Small roundabouts are confusing because people aren't used to them. Big wide junctions where the underpasses are built allow for a large roundabout, so it's much easier to follow the correct course. Quick cycling traffic lights at entrance/exits keep traffic flowing at peak times.

What the heck, let them waste their money on grand projects....

The middle ring road has many underpasses. With the rapid development of C.M i can see an U.P. being useful in the near future.
