buying/selling bike registered in different province

Featured Replies

Hi

Im thinking of buying a bike thats registered in a different province, so number plate says chiang rai and I'm in chiang mai

are there any issues? someone told me i had to go to chiang rai to register it in my name but that doesn't sound right. thanks

I bought my car from my wife's uncle and I live in Sisaket. The car has Ubon Ratchathani license plates and he was only asking if I'd like to keep my Ubon plates.

You can go wherever you want to, if you have the needed documents.

You don't need new number plates. If you dare so, it will complicate the process.

One of the documents needed is the official form to certify the purchase of the bike.

It has to be signed by the seller and the buyer.

The form looks like this:

http://www.dlt.go.th/th/eform/files/ins_car_trn.pdf

(maybe a little different for a motorbike?)

You will likely need an adress certificate from the immigration (details can vary from office to office) and the green book of course.

Your name will be entered to the green book as a result.

Also contact the (extra) insurance if any about a name change.

It will probably cost an extra/inital trip to your closest DLT to find out what documents they require (a Thai speaking person would help).
