Government cracks down on bizarre requests for help from Australian travellers

Featured Replies

Some more good news coming out of Oz.

Too many people don't realise what the Consulate/Embassy's roles is, which is to provide

advice and assistance.

There was an article on TV a few days ago where a young Aussie who lives in Thailand,

got beaten up in a pub. Some posters were suggesting the embassy pick up the medical bill!

It's not the embassy's role to pay medical bills and purchase airline tickets etc.

Consular officials in Bangkok are used to helping Australians in compromising situations, but even they were shocked

when a man asked taxpayers to foot the bill for a prostitutew00t.gif

The request is just one example of bizarre requests the

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Abbott government are cracking down on.
